Ooznest build - 1500mm x 1000mm

So I decided to build a CNC router to aid my making career.
I make interactive installations and work with LED's plus run my own travelling show www.digitalfunfair.co.uk
I wanted to get into the technology and my son showed some interest too which was a bonus.
After a medium amount of research I ordered a kit from Ooznest because it looked like a good bet for a first timer. At least if you are based in UK
There was a typical mix up with the courier company, UPS, which seems to be almost standard for our address, so I didn't get to start building it until after Easter.

The instructions made everything pretty clear and I build the kit up in three sessions - about 10 hours probably - plus add a bit on for me lying because I want to appear more competent than I really am.

In fact part of the reason I was keen on the technology was because of my terrible finishing skills. I was good at Maths at school but give me a ruler and ask me to measure a line and I could never get the same answer twice. At the same time these (lack of) skills means it might be a bit of an ask to build the machine to a decent level!

Largely the build went ok. It was a bit of a struggle getting the Z axis set up and I hope I got it right. At first the bearing kept popping out as I moved the carriage but then I followed the video and think I got it right. Not sure what I was doing wrong.

The main difficulty I had was knowing how tight to do the eccentric spacers. I did them as loose as I could without their being any movement. When I'd put the kit together my son pointed out a couple of the top wheels were loose so I tightened up the relevant spacers. Time will tell I guess.

Anyway I've really enjoyed it so far. I'm off to Portugal for a week on Tuesday so hoping I can get some kind of action before then - but its looking doubtful!
