I am started this build (9-15-15) with a goal of having it done in time to put out some projects for Halloween for use in the event center that employees me. My goal was to produce it for as close to $2000 as possible not including labor. In the end It was very close to $3000. Leadscrews and rack/pinion systems run the price up very quickly jumps so I have opted to use 25mm HTD belting for cost savings. As far as I can tell this is the cheapest DIY off the shelf 4x8 machine on the net. I have used it for about a year and I am extremely satisfied with the outcome. I am working on the instructable for it and I will post the link in the next couple days.
The machine is fully designed in Solidworks, but the belts are left out of images because they were causing issues.
RiNo Route
Build in 'CNC ROUTER BUILDS' published by Steven Sampson, Jan 5, 2017.
A CNC router designed to handle a 4'x8' sheet, for as close to $2000 as possible. The price barrier resulted in my choice to use timing belts rather than leadscrews or rack&pinion. Build List still being updated
