Love the way these came out! The OpenBuilds Walnut was an absolute pleasure to work with!
For this first tool path you will need a .125" Down Cut End Mill by SharkBits! The quality of these SharkBits is absolutely incredible, not to mention that they are beautiful with this blue nano coating, which improves the life of your tool.
Set your speed to lowest setting on your Dewalt Router.
Time to start the first operation which is the pocket tool path for the OpenBuilds logo.
This bit cut through this material like butter! Very impressed with the result.
Check these beauties out! A 60 Degree V Bit was used for the OpenBuilds text and the same .125 Down Cut End Mill was used for the profile tool path. After the cut was complete, a table router was used to create the rounded edge of the coasters.
On to the finishing stages! Black Pearl mica powder was mixed into the resin and pored into the pocket cut and v carving. After the mixture was poured, a swirl technique with a toothpick gave this project some character. Following that, it was time to let the resin cure.
After the resin dried, the surfacing wizard came in handy! Instead of sanding the resin down, the LEAD CNC was used to provide an impressive finish.
This was the end result after surfacing the coasters. Very impressive, and timed saved!
A lacquer finish was applied to enhance the natural beauty of the walnut and this was the final result! The files for this project are attached, so break in your machine and get cutting!
