I needed some 10mm hard plastic to make joining plates for my new machine. I shopped around and found this company in Dorset, which just happens to be down the road from me and got myself a 500mm x 500mm piece of Acetal (Delrin) for a good price. Plastic Sales Ltd | Plastic Engineering for the Trade Mark, the guy who owns it, has built his own rather big CNC machine for cutting the plastics he sells. So he knows what we are up to, is very knowledgeable with regard to his products and will help wherever he can in supplying the right sort of plastics for the jobs we have to do. I will be putting his details into the Resources area, so anyone in the UK can find a reliable supplier of many types of plastics for CNCing. P.S. I'm sure I'm going to find a use for that plastic threaded bar he sells. He used it to hold his bed down, and of course it doesn't matter if your cutter hits it!!!
Has he been around a while? I wanna say I bought something from there (through eBay?) when I still lived over there. If not, it looks like the kind of supplier I was always on the hunt for!
Yes. He sells a lot of small stuff on eBay, as well as up to 8 x 4 sheets. It's pretty mind-boggling the number of plastics he carries. Loads of which I've never heard of. He showed me a black plastic, about 5mm thick, and thinly coated with aluminum. So when you carve it you are left with a nice black interior.
Oh, that signmaking stuff? Seems great, I'm surprised we don't see more of it around in a variety of places. Maybe it's super expensive.
Awesome stuff @GrayUK thanks for sharing this resource Along the same note the OpenBuilds Team is putting together materials that will be available on the OpenBuilds Part Store. It's going to be a great addition and so many cool projects will come from it. We want to be sure to have the basics of what everyone uses as well as some of the exotics. so if you guys have any ideas please let us know. Thanks guys
