Hey Natesbox. Awesome Vlog! Thank you. I'm very interested in getting a cnc myself and the LEAD 1010 is at the top of my list right now. I don't have any cnc experience either so I'm glad you look to be doing really well so far! How long was the build? What software are you using if you don't mind me asking?
The build took me a solid weekend and a few nights during the week. I did a lot of studying ahead of time and consider myself fairly adept at assembling electronics/mechanical stuff. There’s a lot to learn but the effort is not without reward. In terms of software, I started with the openbuilds software and have since moved in to bCNC for the machine control. The openbuilds stufff works and is constantly being updated which is nice. If you want to tinker, then you can look into alternatives, but it will definitely get the job done. On the cam side you may want to go with something commercial if cut times and toolpath optimization matter to you.
I don't have a machine yet but I have downloaded the Vcarve Desktop trial and have been trying the Openbuilds software for a month now hoping to have some sort of idea of what I'm doing before I get the cnc. The assembly videos seem to be enough to get through the cnc and electronics builds....were they your main source of directions or does the kit come with a paper manual too? Thanks!
Nope I just used the videos which were great as long as you don’t mind pausing it as you work. No paper docs, these machines require the supercomputer between your ears to complete
How long will it take for the pre orders to start shipping?for the lead system 1010? Will it be like certain waves of before orders or just how they say it will he released on the 28 February.
