    Hi there,

I am doing a small custom build that will not need nor suit a Nema23. Instead I will be using the Nema17 motors.

I am hoping someone might point me in the right direction for a setup to suit a C-Beam setup using 1:1 ratio of 20T with closed belt like in the store, but with a 5mm shaft that will suit the Nema17 motor.

Presently I can only se the 20T 3GT for 9mm belt suit a 20T timing pulley with 6.35mm bore.

That's kind of a tricky one. The real problem is not many vendors will offer GT3 pulleys in 5mm as GT3 is designed for more force than nema 17s would tend to provide. If anyone would have it, Powge would be the most likely candidate.

If you're looking to stick with OpenBuilds parts, you could always take one of the 6.35mm bore pulleys and fill it with JB Weld and then re-drill and tap it for a 5mm shaft. This paired with the Motor Mount Plate - NEMA 17 Stepper Motor would provide the proper pulley spacing for the 70 tooth GT3 belt from the parts store and proper mounting holes for the stepper. If you'd rather create your own plate in order to get something a bit more low profile, pulley and belt combinations can easily be calculated with this online calculator.

One thing I didn't mention is that I will be mounting to the end of C-BEAM just like the one for nema23.

Unfortunately the hole spacing on the reduction/stand off plate really can't be modified to work with the nema 17 stepper. The plate suggested above would mount to the C-Beam end plate in a similar manner using the two existing narrow spaced holes at the bottom of the C-beam channel.

That is a real pity. Ideally I want to use it to sit my nema17 motors behind my Z axis. But, in the exact format of the one on the store.

This is my own design so far.

A suggested update to the OB reduction plate could be to slot mounting hole to suit the nema17. That way the plate has a much larger audience to be able to be used in different scenarios such as 3d printers.

Can you not use a G2 belt? There are plenty of pulleys to have in that size with a 5mm bore. Just one example. As for the plate, can you print, or have it printed, one that will suit you?

    Hi Justin
I came tho the same conclusion today as well to just print what I need in PETG. My worry though wad the slots for tensioning the NEMA17 on printed plates.

As for 9mm belts and pulleys I found a source online that does down to 5mm bore.

Yes I have found the pulleys online no issue. Just wish that the plate would be updated to add new slots to allow NEMA17 motors to be able to be used on them.

Plenty of us here can make the plate no problem. All you have to do is ask. ;)
