    Position is fine, same pin is used for pwm and without. If that module doesnt handle PWM just make sure to always generate GCODE with 100% power (where S??? = same value as $30=???

    Thanks for replying.

    Allright $30=1000 rpm and LASER ON 100% is M3 S1000 , so even though I cannot make the laser test with the Tool On option, If I launch the GCODE with 100% the laser should start working?

    You should be able to. Forgot to set Laser Mode ($32=1) to Enabled?

    There are 2 power sources. One comes from the MeanWell 24v that goes to the BlackBox, the other is another AC/DC converter that delivers the 12v to the laser driver. I'm unfamiliar with the internals of the laser driver and the BlackBox, but it might indeed be the GND problem. I would check if there is a difference in voltage between the 2 power supply GNDs (should be 0v).

    exactly! Does someone knows what should I do? The guy who sold me the laser, suggested me to use a pmw/ttl converter.

    Won't be needed.

    Just wire it as GND (black wire on TTL input) to GND on Toolhead connector, and TTL+ (Red wire) to PWM on BlackBox

    Then only use 100% laser power to generate "TTL" (no PWM). Lower percentages becomes PWM to lower the power level, those chinese modules often work on PWM anyway they just label it TTL due to language barrier

    Set $32=1, $30=1000 and then use OpenBuilds CONTROL > Tool on > Laser to test

    Allright, I´m cheking with a voltimeter the pwm output connection and I get 0.8V , how can I calibrate the output from the black box to get the full Volts needed?

    No calibration. Just send the correct commands. Note laser mode only sends output during a move. Read the Grbl wiki

    Hi Guys, I'm building the ACRO 510 and are busy sourcing the parts. The parts list states that I must get 3 x GT2-2M Timing Pulley - 14 Tooth, but where I stay I could only manage to source 16 Tooth GT2-2M Timing Pulleys. Would that make a difference or MUST I get the 14 tooth pulleys. What difference is it gonna make to my built and/or can I compensate for that 2 tooth difference somehow? Thanks in advance.

    1) Slight decrease in accuracy (but increase in top speed)
    2) Different steps-per-mm value in the configuration (remember to update the settings or you're jobs will come out sized incorrectly): refer gnea/grbl

    Hi Peter, thanks for the reply. I'm also into 3D printing and I'm familiar with calibrating e-steps if thats what you mean in #2. BTW I'm from Secunda.

    you can use this calculator to figure out your initial steps/mm value, then calibrate from there
    GRBL settings calculator
    (on a server in J'burg while I am in Grahamstown)

    I now have a question for the guru's. I have two boards, Arduino Uno with CNC Shield and MKS Gen L v1.0. Which one would you recommend for my Acro 510 and should I use Marlin or Grbl?

    Uno with GRBL
    Marlin is designed for 3D printing and it does that very well, others things not so much

    Okay thanks. Can I connect the two y-axis stepper motors on one driver with the cnc shield? Then I have don't have to use two drivers. On my Flsun cube 3d printer with the MKS Gen L v1.0 board I have both my z-axis stepper motors on one driver with a y cable.

    Depends on the driver and the amperage of the stepper motors. You can always try and see what happens. Personally I would use separate drivers for all 4. Also, if that CNC shield is a Chinese clone, the pinouts have changed since grbl 0.8 (when those clones were cloned) which will affect which pin you use for the laser. gnea/grbl

    You were right, thanks. I'm running one driver on one stepper now. The amps of the two steppers are more than that of one driver.

    Morning guys. I have two questions.
    1. On my Acro 510 with cnc shield with A4988 drivers, should I go full, half, quarter, eight or sixteen micro stepping?
    2. On my Arduino Uno with CNC Shield v3.00 I can only install up to GRBL 0.9j firmware for everything to work. When I install GRBL 1.1 nothing works?

    Original shields from Protoneer Arduino CNC Shield – 100% GRBL Compatable works with Grbl 1.1. The chinese fakes are still Grbl 0.8 pinout. Supporting the original creators (for about the same price as fakes after all) not only supports continued development, but also entitles you to support
    Grbl 1.1 came out in 2016, grbl 0.9 already had the revised pinout (ie even older) , so sad they keep catching people by selling an outdated board. Protoneer has a nice writeup about it at the link above. But yeah, support the real developers, help make the world a better place

    To use those with Grbl 1.1 refer to the Grbl wiki to see which pins moved where and adapt how you wire it, or recompile the firmware (what you save in cost going with the fake ones, sadly will cost you in time and learning curve).

    Alternatively, even better, get a Blackbox (start [OpenBuilds Documentation] for more) which is the official controller for use with OpenBuilds machines / software / support

    Thanks, to go for another control board is not an option due to the money problem. I will go with the learning curve and try to recompile. Can you perhaps give me a answer on question one?

    A4988s are extremely weak (500mA practically out of the undersized pololu footprint that limits thermal performance) so you'll have to go low on the microstepping to get any torque out. Higher microstepping = lower torque. You will still have to keep accelerations low so won't work too well for raster jobs.

    I'm not experienced with this kind of projects you must understand. Should I go full, half, quarter, eight or sixteen with the jumper settings like I asked in my first question please!

    Try eighth and if you see you have problems with the stepper not being able to keep up go to quarter.

    hello I need help because I don't know what happens with grbl 1.1
    I can't configure
    I have assembled acros laser arduino, cncshield, nema17, a4988 driver
    as seen in video and photo
    $ 100 and 101 = 26.666667 I draw a 50 x 50 mm square but the laser makes a 26 x 26 cm square if you look at it is what marks $ 100 and 101
    I try $ 100 and 101 = 20,000 and the laser makes a 20 x 20 cm square and if successively if I decrease $ 100 and 101
    I do not understand anything

    Thanks for the motivation. I've managed to get the latest grbl_v1.1h.20190825.hex by uploading it with xLoader and now everything is working as it should or lets rather say how I want it to work. GRBL is actually nice, I like it. I will post my final pics of my build when I'm finish with my cable management. Thank You.
