I had to replace my computer with a new one and now I cannot connect to Openbuilds software. When I try to connect I get the following message: unknown USB device( descriptor request failed) when I click on the that I get error 43 I know for a fact that my wired server connection has failed, might be a bad wire connection to my new laptop from my router and I do have intermittent wifi connection as the laptop is located in my garage. My techy son-in-law has reloaded all the openbuilds software and we get the error message as above
Installed FTDI drivers from docs.openbuilds.com/blackbox? Disabled USB selective suspend? Try a different USB cable too
My techy guy is not available for a couple of weeks and I am at a loss to fix the problem. I have never been a computer guru but I can do a lot of other things very well. I can fix your car, I can fix your model train, I can weld most things, but computers ??? I'm not sure if my wired connection is good to my server in house to my garage but the speed seems to be faster than my wifi. i still cannot connect to my blackbox, the USB connect seems to be greyed out and when I press on the CONNECT link nothing happens. I have also downloaded the openbuilds blackbox control a number of times to no avail. I have changed the USB cable from my new laptop to the blackbox to no avail. Peter had earlier replied and asked me to check if I installed FTDI drivers , also asked if I disabled USB selective suspend. you have to remember that I'm new to this and short messages mean nothing to me, You guys have been dealing in computer code and tech talk for years and you might be under the impression that I know what you are talking about. where on the Openbuilds site do I look for the options to install the FTDI drivers / Where do I disable the USB selective suspend ? Is my blackbox defective ? Sorry for the rant tom
Once is enough There is a huge stack of documentation on start [OpenBuilds Documentation] with all the details. The short description was a question. Did you install the FTDI drivers? If it doesnt ring a bell, head over to the documentation, and follow the links to the BlackBox section. See section 4.1 and 4.2
also, did you select the correct USB port from the list before you clicked connect? when my OpenbuildsCONTROL starts it shows this \ but the NodeMCU is a weatherstation, so I click that box and get a list of devices: and I choose the 'FTDI USB to Serial' because that is the BlackBox, then click connect and I get the BB connected.
FTDI drivers are installed Usb power suspend is disabled tried a new usb cord any other things to try?
When I get to the FTDI website I have a choice of VCP drivers or D2XX drivers or D3XX drivers / My new laptop computers is Windows 10 operating systems. Any more info would be appreciated Tom
VCP (virtual com port) so you can access the USB Serial Port: Direct link to current version at the time of this post: https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM21228_Setup.zip It is nicely documented in the Documentation (Sections 4.1 and 4.2 relates) See docs:blackbox:install-drivers [OpenBuilds Documentation] and docs:blackbox:install-windows-selective-suspend [OpenBuilds Documentation] and also see docs:blackbox:faq-usb-connection-failed [OpenBuilds Documentation]
My techy guy is here now. If someone could call me at [private information removed by moderators] to help us through the driver installation process I would really appreciate it. Thanks tom
We are on the FTDI website for the VCP drivers , however we cannot find the link to download the drivers Tom
See reply above ^ Point your Techie at docs.openbuilds.com, while you make him a coffee he can read up all about it
