First post here I have some aluminum rails in my shop not being used for anything. I would like to build a k40 type laser cutter/engraver. The sizes I have: (4) 37" 4590's (2) 33.5" 4545's (2) 28.75" 4545's (7) 19.5 4545's also many 90 deg. connectors, corner connectors etc etc. I also have several 3d printers and a homebuilt MPCNC machine about 24" x 36" So, here's my question: Is it a good choice to build a 24" x 36" k40 with them or should I sell them all and buy something more standard like 2020? I don't really see v-slot wheels / trollies etc for this size. thanks for any advice
You could try to use them and use the Linear Rail - OpenRailĀ® Linear Rail - OpenBuilds Part Store on them, but that costs nearly as much as just buying new v-slot.
At those sizes I'd consider building a frame/table/enclosure for something. Not sure I'd bother attempting to force them into being an actual machine, though.
