Hi guys I am trying to cut out a small sign in 5mm acrylic using a workbee 1510 with Nema 23 Stepper Motor - 1.8degree/step, 175oz-in Problem im having is the pocket inside the cut is working fine but when i come to cut out the outside of the sign the motor seems to be slipping. The motor itself is slipping not the tension belt. What could be the problem ? Feedrate 1300 mm/min Plunge 700mm/min Cut Depth: per Pass 1.25mm Endmill Diameter 6.35mm Controller Blackbox
Most likely: loose setscrews on the pulleys. If the setscrews go loose, the motor shaft can slip inside the pulley - Make sure to have a setscrew on the Flat side of the D shape of the motor shaft - A couple drops of Locktite, between the pulley and the motor shaft to prevent slipping
I don't think its the shafts, I tried holding the axis on with my hand while jogging it on the PC, i can't seem to see the shaft moving, it more looks like the motor itself is stalling.

Had checked the wires they where all tight, How much should I turn the current dial to avoid overheating the motors? Theyr currently at around 50%
Depends on the climate of your workshop, ambient temp etc. The red indicator will tell you when it overheats
Ok cool, their wiring color code differs from our motors, but the basic specs (coil voltage, inductance and current rating) are pretty similar Do check those again please, we tend to see the loose setscrews on pulleys reason for slipping quite often (because of the tiny hex, you can't tighten them very well for fear of stripping) and while they may look right, can slip under just the right load
I think I may have found the problem the v slots got some acrylic bits in them which is causing the wheels to get harder on some places which may be causing the motors to stall due to more force needed. Now I need to figure out where to get a dust shoe for my makita rt0700cx4
Blue (non-permanent) loctite is the solution for the drive pulleys on a belt drive. Re dust shoe you could always make one - search the forum for ideas. Alex.
