Hi I am in the market for a workbee, My friend have a workbee that he wants to sell its brand new. The kit only comes with the frame and 2.2KW spindle kits. I don't see any hardware like stepper motors or any electronics I can buy it for a good price, can I complete this with the Openbuilds black box? What is the list of parts do I need? Can someone help point me to the right direction please I am very new to all this, I have a 3D printer but nothing like this. Please bear with me if I have too much questions TIA
Checkout docs.openbuilds.com/blackbox for all the info You'll need a BlackBox, 24v Meanwell PSU, 4x Motors (or treat yourself to the High Torque ones), and 3 or 6x Limit switches 2.2kw spindle is major overkill (refer How to calculate V-Slot® deflection under the weight of such a spindle) We recommend DWP611s as a more beginner friendly option (VFDs are hard to wire, hard to configure and spit out tonnes of EMI - Routers does 98% of the jobs you'll do without the complications)
Thank you so much for the reply, is the DWP611s good for aluminum cutting? I plan to get all the items you listed and the high torque stepper motors. hope it will be easy to install everything. Is ther manuals or Tutorial on a build for beginners? TIA
Plenty good enough when paired with CNC Router Bits - OpenBuilds Part Store - flex in the frame is the more limiting factor than the spindle; a Minimill is a lot more rigid than a large router for example, more a matter of picking the right machine for the task at hand (but with the right cutting recipe the Workbee can do Aluminum too)
YouTube Just check with him where he got it - it may be a fake if the price is too good and maybe the reason he gave up on it? (;
I need to find out, it could be from China. I am not sure. IF it is would all the parts you mentioned still work for it? whats the difference from Openbuilds and say like SPAM 3d. they just copied it?
Quality assurance and customer support is the main difference. You will get help when needed from OpenBuilds. Also, the parts are not sourced from the same supplier. The Chinese V wheels are crap. They will crack. They do not use a precision shim between the wheels. Instead they use a washer and the washers are not a consistent thickness which is probably why the wheels crack.
If I am in the same position where I have the frame, router, and 4 NEMA23 motors and I just need the electronics to power/control the motors does that mean I would just need the blackbox, the power supply to it, and limit switches?
The blackbox has all the wiring I need, correct? One thing I noticed is that the blackbox only has 3 limit switches. Does that mean there only can be 3 instead of 6?
The BlackBox (SKU2790) has connectors, but if you need wiring too, refer to either the Bundle (SKU2925) CNC Electronics Bundle instead or alternatively, refer to Electronics - Cables - OpenBuilds Part Store and Electronics - Connectors - OpenBuilds Part Store You can wire 6, just parallel up the second ones (SIG on controller, to SIG on first switch to SIG on second switch, repeat for GND and V+)
I'm sorry what does SIG mean? I understand that if its in parallel then if one switch turns on, the circuit will be complete but all cables look direct so is there a splitter cable?
Signal. Limit switch connectors has 3 pins (you wire the connectors, its screw terminals. It is not premade "direct" cables) SIG = signal V+ = power GND = ground See docs:blackbox:connect-xtension-limit [OpenBuilds Documentation] You can wire two wires into one terminal hole to wire the second switch (in parallel) Or, skip the second of switches and use Soft Limits: See gnea/grbl Must-read bedtime reading tonight: - Read the whole Grbl Wiki gnea/grbl - every page - understand Grbl will help you immensely going forward - Skim through all the sections of the BlackBox Docs docs:blackbox:start [OpenBuilds Documentation] - so you know what it supports, what goes where etc - Watch the Youtube Videos relevant to your machine: https://www.youtube.com/user/OpenBuilds/search?query=wiring blackbox
