Hi I am Paulie from Australia, I have just built my first CNC machine a Workbee 1010 using the Open Builds Black Box controller and Nema 23 Stepper 2.45N.m - High Torque Motors. Everything on X axis works well the same the Z axis when it comes to Y axis driven by the two motors it all goes horribly wrong. If I jog 1mm at a time it copes anything more it jams or moves a bit and appears that one side is either lagging or accelerating and the jams. This is starting to become very frustrating so near but so far. Where I bought the build form here in Australia have suggested. 1.To check machine is square. I have done and it is. 2. That wheels are to tight. I have spent hours adjusting fully on fully off and all points in between, either jams immediately or travels varying degrees of distance before jams again. 3. Check that current setting for both motors are set the same on the Black box controller. Which I believe they are. Counted them down to the minimum setting and back up to the original default setting on the Black Box. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions that might get me through this barrier. Please bare in mind that I am a 60+ woodworking enthusiast, practical but when comes to g-code I have no idea. I have put a video up on you tube to illustrate Thank you.
Hi @Paulie Tweddell, we can't view the video - it requires us to sign in, could you attach it to a new post here please. Thanks, Alex.
Hey Paul, any luck so far? I am experiencing a similar problem, only on the z axis. I loosened the wheels on the Y and Y2 axis until they seem too loose but it is traversing smoothly. would much appreciate it if you would reply.... Cheers Mate!!!
Is your motors shakingly moving? See docs:blackbox:faq-identify-motor-coils [OpenBuilds Documentation]
Hi @Paulie Tweddell, sorry for not replying sooner - didn't spot you had sorted the video. The problem you have with your Y axis is almost certainly a wiring fault - either the wires are in the wrong order or, more likely, one wire is making poor contact. Follow the link @Peter Van Der Walt gave in the message above to check that. Alex.
Hi @Paulie Tweddell, running into the same problem at the moment. Did you find that the suggestions above sorted your issues out?
My machine is also jamming but only after it's been working for 30-40 minutes. I can move all axis manually fine withought any problem. Any one have any ideas how to fix this?
ok good. BlackBox doesnt jitter from overheating like say DRv885s do, so its not that. then its probably docs:blackbox:faq-identify-motor-coils [OpenBuilds Documentation] (Loose terminal, only 3 of the 4 motor wires making good contact) Or mechanical In nature if wiring has been redone and issue persists
Ok, I’ve checked all wiring, I’ve checked pressure on all wheels, I’ve squared all si des and my machine is still jamming. Really getting frustrating. You can hear the beautiful sound it makes on the video. Help would be greatly appreciated.
I know you said you checked all the wiring, but sometimes the wiring may be in too far where the insulation may be preventing a good connection. Is it both Y steppers or just one? It was hard to tell from the video. Also, is there a chance the gantry got out of square?
I’ve squared it. It’s the right side. So you mean that when I tighten the screw on the wire I should’nt push on it?
What he means is that if the exposed part of the wire, where you see the conductor, is not long enough it may be that when you push the wire into the connector the screw is not coming down on the conductor but on the insulation. Just make sure you have exposed enough of the wire to prevent this.
