I have a question about my OX CNC machine. I've bought complete kit from some guy in my country, and when he assembled the machine, he assembled the middle v-slot rail horizontally instead of vertically I changed it, and made it as it should be. But now comes my problem. My z axes is to small to do any job. There is 5 cm between my spoiler board and the bottom of z axes. Is there any way to upgrade my z axes so i can mount longer bits and to work on thicker materials. Thank you in advance.
The short answer is 'yes'. The long answer is it depends on how high you want. You could fabricate longer gantry plates or you could try to adapt one of the other OpenBuilds machine gantry setup. LOL, that's what the previous owner did and the OP just changed.
Just like I said, previous owner lower the bed, but it was not quite sturdy. So I set it up like it was supposed to, and I don’t have space to work.
If you lay it horizontally as low as it can go does it not rest flat on the table the Ox is on? If so, buy some 20x40 v slot extrusions to put on the outer edges so the spoil board is supported on the edges and in the middle. You should then gain an additional 60mm of Z cutting height (cheapest and easiest option). Or order taller plates form here: 2" Taller OX CNC Y Gantry Plates (seen at Openbuilds) | eBay Third option use your existing cnc to mill your own taller plates out of aluminum.
I’ll try the first option, but also I’ll lay the outer extrusions (front and back) so I can place longer sheet and the whole machine will be in the same level. Also can I take off hexa plates so I can connect middle extrusions with left and right frame extrusions?
If you are talking about the hex shaped plate with the logo, you do not need that. If. You are laying flat the front and rear 8020 pieces, you will loose some y travel. It will be about 120 mm lost because the wheels on the gantry bottom will hit it sooner on each side. I would substitute 2020 in that case.
Another option you could do is buy some 2080 V slot and add it to the top of your existing plates and rest the beam on top of those plates and attached to the new upright v slot. It would sort of be like the LEAD machine then. This would allow you to continue using your existing belt drive. you would have to find away to attach the X belt on each side, but that should not be too difficult.
Yes. I was going to suggest purchasing the C-beam gantry plates in the picture, but they are not set up to be used for a belt drive like you have.
It should be. I think your idea of laying everything flat is better, but just substitute the front and rear pieces with 2040 instead of the 2080 that already exists (if it is 2080 and not 2 2040 pieces). The 2080 could be moved to the edges to support the spoil board. By using the 2040, you would have a flat bed that does not loose any travel in the Y direction and you gain 40mm in the Z. You can also put material longer than the machine bed on it which allows for tool path tiling (cutting things longer than the machine). Honestly, it is hard to tell what parts you already have because I do not have a parts list. Are the front and rear pieces made of 2 pieces each of 2040? Th picture I show above looks like it but I can't tell for sure. Maybe if you posted good sharp images of the machine you own we could advise you better.
