Very quick question : what should i be searching for online, for a decent box to put the cnc electronics in? Having a hard time finding a search term that works. Metal or plastic? Built in ground plane or diy with an aluminium plate? Ideally i want vfd, blackbox and 24v psu in same box.. Need seperate shielded compartment for vfd? Ventilation would be holes near bottom with dust filter, decent 120 mm industrial fan blowing out near top, through watercooling radiator. External would be vfd control panel, on/off and emergency stop. Cables entering through glands and directly wired (no plugs) Sound doable? Sound ok?
Actually just realised id be a fool not to try and use the black anodised aluminium pc case i have lying empty.. Would also match very nicely with my black anodised machine! Just have to see if, stripping out all excess stuff inside i can make room for everything.
Physical distance between the vfd, spindle wiring and everything else is the best insurance against emi issues - I wouldn't recommend putting them in the same box. Alex.
Yes i appreciate that, and am aware that its may well cause isssues. however i would like to try, since i wish the machine to be in some sense "portable" insofar as its initial location is, hopefully, temporary, being extremely cramped. Ive seen supposedly successful builds with it "all in one" and i intend to go to town on the shielding. My first attempt will be a "best case" scenario : vfd in enclosure, vfd cable in drag chain, antistatic vacuum hose running along drag chain. All very neat but all "not a good idea" Once (and i expect it) i find issues, i will increase distances and redesign where necessary. If my shielding can allow me to keep it "compact" and easy to move, great! If not, no problem, im not in a rush
