I just placed my order for an Interface controller. I skimmed through this entire log, but I might have missed something, I am running a GRBL controller, so, it is my understanding that I will need to modify the included cable to connect to my Arduino Uno using the TX, RX, GND and V5 pins. That is pretty easy for me to do.

What I didn't find any info on, is will I need to modify the GRBL controller firmware in any way?
Also, will the controller use continuous jog? Ie, as long as the button is pressed, it will jog.

    Thanks.

    Hello,
Im having an issue with my Interface. It works perfectly with my Dewalt 611 and after it died I replaced it with a 2.2KW spindle.
As soon as I run the Spindle the Interface stops working, the screen reads perfectly but it does not accept input. If I turn the Spindle off it immediately starts working.
If I unplug it and plug my computer into the black box, I can send commands to move with no problems if the Spindle is on.
Any ideas on how I can resolve this issue?

    Thank you

    Andre

(The BlackBox and Power Supply are plugged into an ISOBAR too)

Resolve the EMI interference coming off the spindle (usually bad earthing on the VFD/Spindle end) See the EMI FAQ : docs:blackbox:faq-emi [OpenBuilds Documentation]

It seems that my issues are slowly getting worse.
I have been trying to work with my Interface and now the device will not power on when the BlackBox is connected to 24V power supply, it will only power on when the BlackBox is connected to USB. I have flashed both devices using CONTROL.
    What else can I do?

That looks like a damaged Muscle board inside the BlackBox. Please speak to http://support.openbuilds.com/support/home and they'll be happy to assist. Include video link in the ticket please

Hey peter. What does "[unable to check]" mean for firmware? No wifi connection?

it checks a couple things along the way:

    Return states:
    0: Success
1: Invalid HTTP response code (not 200/301) for https://raw.githubusercontent.com/OpenBuilds/firmware/main/interface/version.txt
    2: http-error occurred
    3: ssl error occurred
4: unable to create client instance
    5: No wifi

Usually a "try again later" will get it working

I received my control box today. I am wiring it up to my An Arduino Uno using the serial TX and RX. From what I know about serial, typically the TX goes to the RX and the RX goes to the TX. Is this the same with the controller wiring?

Ow that I have the controller working, I’ve got a question. Is there. Way to take it out of continuous jog mode? I’m finding it hard to get my xyz position exactly where I want it due to the continuous jog rather than a specific increment. Thanks.

Toggle the jog speed way down for finer moves or invest in a XYZ Touch Probe Plus

    Hi there.
I've been running my machine with my laptop for like a week now no issues. I have the Interface but can't get it to work. When the interface starts I get that image and couple seconds after I get the jumping game. I never get pass that screen. I'll appreciate any help.

Thanks Peter, but that won’t work in my case. Here is my situation, I need to be able to set 0,0 at a specific point on an object that is not at the corner or edge, then move to another position etc. I am able to do this with the pc, but i had to move my machine to another location that is away from the pc. So I was hoping that the Control interface would have these functions.

Did you remember to Unplug the USB cable to make the BlackBox switch back to Aux mode?

Adjust your workflow to CAM up with the correct offsets, relative to probe location. Pro it up :)

    Holly ,

Mating to Blackbox, brilliant, now I just need to wait until I can download jobs from WIFI directly and I'll order the INTERFACE, I have everything else

Already there since firmware 1.36 (we are on 1.47 already): See OpenBuilds/firmware
    1) Enter the IP address of the interface into a Browser
    2) Click Upload Gcode to Interface

Wow the Interface CNC Touch looks really nice. I just found out about it an hour ago.

I've been using OpenBuildsCONTROL to run my generic GRBL machine (Arduino Uno plugged to my laptop). This is really nice software and I really love it.

So as things stand, I plug the uno into my computer, run OpenBuildsCONTROL and then load and run jobs.

If I get the Interface CNC Touch do I just plug my arduino into the touch and then send jobs from my computer through wifi? Can I still use OpenBuildsCONTROL from my PC? If I do can I use the buttons on the Interface CNC Touch to jog and it feeds the information back to my OpenBuildsCONTROL so it knows where I'm at?

I'm also understanding I can send the jobs as files from my laptop through wifi and then pull them up on the Touch screen and run them (as well as bring jobs over on a micro SD card).

Does that sound right? I'm just trying to get a grip on what I'm gaining and what I'm loosing in my workflow.

    Thanks in advane!

    See docs:interface:connect-generic [OpenBuilds Documentation]

Technically Interface replaces the PC. See docs:interface:usage-instructions [OpenBuilds Documentation]

Not the intended use case for Interface

Or walk over. On large files walking over is faster. But yes, you can.

    Usb Flashdrive, not SD

watch the video under docs:interface:usage-instructions [OpenBuilds Documentation] for an overview

    Thanks for the replies.

For "Interface CNC Touch do I just plug my arduino into the touch"

So this is no it does not have a USB connector to go to Arduino for convenience?

No, it uses Serial, available on D0 and D1 of the Arduino

@Peter Van Der Walt Any idea why I can't add folders on my usb and then see them as folders on the interface? I'm on a Mac. The PROBE and PROFILES folders work, but when I try to make my own folders they just show up as 0 kb files on the interface.

Not sure, try from a Windows PC? Maybe Mac doesn't do FAT32 to spec?

Hey there, got another question. I'm in the process of rebuilding my machine. I converted the Z axis to lift the entire assembly, motor and all, not just the spindle. My stepper is more than adequate to light the assembly, but I noticed that after Its done lifting, it drops slightly due to the weight. Its as if the motor turns off after the lift. Is there a grbl setting I can change with the Interface controller to make the motor hold the position? Its just a pain for me to hook up a computer at the moment. My laptop is down and I really don't want to have to move my entire desktop to the shop just to change a setting... :) Thanks.

    $1=255: see gnea/grbl
The Grbl Wiki is a must-read for anyone
