morning, or afternoon depending on where you are. i am trying to machine two identical parts on a chinese knockoff using blackbox control from fusion 360. modelled the component and then applied another instance of it in setup. g code looks good but when machines moving from what it has finished in g54 on to g55 it trips the z limit switch. what am i doing wrong? cheers steve
i gave that a go a while ago and it blew my mind slightly. would patterning still use a g55 or would two separate bits of stock have to be placed accurately on the spoil board? im shaping some chopping boards from supplied stock that is only 4mm bigger that the finished article so set up has to be pretty spot on. because you seem to know what you're talking about , on the same job with my now z probed for g55, the probing function threw a wobble on the g55 this afternoon. same process for g54 is fine but g55 gave me an odd z height. any simple reason for that?
No, patterning doesnt use G55 unless you tell it to. I think what you are really asking is if patterning uses multiple work offsets for the same cuts in different locations. No it doesnt. That's the point. Well, at lease one of the points. You give it a distance (dimensional offset) when you set it up in Fusion. I like using it for production when I either have a ton of extra stock and I can wing it or when I have a fixture. If its something you're going to be doing a lot of, look into a simple locating fixture and set it up for a higher G5x number that you'll never need for anything else. Then you can screw around with G54 all you want and when its time to do that job again, set up/install your fixture, home your machine and go. No need to re probe since grbl saves your offset info. Assuming you're using OB Control. I cant remember off the top of my head if it supports probing different work coordinates. If your stock thickness is the same then you dont need to re probe it. Just probe it in G54, take note of your current Z value, switch to G55, put the Z value into the dro and instead of pressing enter, hold the shift down then press enter to set it. Actually the stock doesnt even need to be the same thickness. Just figure out the difference and set it in the DRO. I dont see that your post was edited.
Sharmstr Thanks again for your reply, that has made a lot of sense and I reckon will help In the future. Apologies for the machine faux Pas , I'll be sure not to mention it in future post's. Thanks for your help
