Just a quick question here. I'm planning on making a pocket board for my ER collets. I'm limited on horizontal spaces and was thinking it would be convenient if I could mount it on a wall. The easy way to do it would be to mill a pocket for each collet with a stepped down diameter at the base and epoxy a magnet in the base. Any issues with the fact this will magnetize the collets?
Point well taken. This system though will likely be exclusively wood/plastic. I currently have no plans for metal, as I have an old Index Vertical 40 (1943 vintage) knee mill if I need to mill metal. Also, thanks to a previous boss, I'm kind of obsessive about cleaning ER collets when I take them out of the spindle. Blowing out with an air line at a minimum. I couldn't think of a major problem, but better safe than sorry.
Yes, I assumed you were talking lathe or milling, metalworking use. Can you not do what you suggested, but add a retaining strip across the front to stop them falling forward?
