I decided to swap out the Dewalt for 1.5kw spindle and VFD. The change over was pretty painless, I just had to make a mounting plate to attach the spindle to the Z gantry. I used a piece of 1/4" aluminum as my mounting plate.

I'm just going to use the VFD to turn it on/off and adjust the speed for now.

I will run a few things tomorrow to see how it does. So far, it's much quieter. 20211112_161615.jpg 20211112_192912.jpg 20211112_193338.jpg

Thanks, I used a 3D printed one I saw here as inspiration and machined it out of HDPE 20211010_195255.jpg

Oooops! I missed that, so sorry! Still good if anyone else stumbles on it in this thread, now its linked to your awesome holder again :)

You know I genuinely think its a good design if I even recommend it to its original creator lol!

I'm impressed after the initial test. The spindle is much quieter than the Dewalt and seems to have a lot more torque....we will see how well it performs over time with some production work under it's belt.

I got lucky with the tram....it's only out a couple thousands of an inch in all directions.....close enough for me, for now.

With this unit, I didn't have to mess with any of the programming. It doesn't come with any wiring so I purchased a 50' 16gauge extension cord. I cut the plug end off with about 6' for the power supply and used what I needed to run from the VFD to the spindle. After wiring it up, it's running right out of the box.

no worries, I am very glad to see that the resource is getting used.

Your spindle mount looks very rigid, I bet it will work out really well.
