I'm new to the CNC world, and have just gotten my first CNC, its an Openbuild lead 1515.

    My problem is this:

Sometimes when I move the Y axis, it is only one of the motors that runs, if I turn the blackbox off and on again, then they both run again.

Just now i tried to run a test, and it worked fine for 5-10min, then all of the sudden one motor stopped again.
And it's always the same motor

    Any ideas?

    Best regards

Dont know if this is related, but i just noticed that the fan on the black box never turns on.
Is the fan regulated or should it be always on?

Always on. So if its died, it would explain the driver overheating and shutting down. Check in with the Store at Support and they'd be able to send out a replacement fan to you

    So here's a little update..............
I contacted the Openbuilds support, and the service was absolutly amazing.
I've told them about my problem and within 4 days a new fan arrived at my adresse in Denmark.

I mounted the new fan and everything worked perfectly, the machine cut out a small piece of material (4x4x4cm), and it ran smooth and there was no problem.
Today it was time to play with the machine again, I turned on the BlackBox, and while my pc was booting suddenly there was smoke from the BlackBox.

And within 5sec the fan died again

I've tripple checked that the wires from the fan to the board was correct, so now I'm completly lost on what the problem is ‍♂️

    Any ideas??

    Morten

What power supply are you using? Sounds like a PSU surge perhaps? Best to continue the conversation wtih the store's support team though so they can get a new one out to you

    UPDATE:

I've finally got around to mount the new controller that Openbuilds sent me, everything is plugged in, but when I connect the 24v the blackbox dosnt start.
And the green light on the powersupply goes out, when I pull the PSU connecter from the blackbox, the powersupply greenlamp turns back on.

I'm getting a bit frustrated, every time I think fix one problem a new one comes

It sounds as though you might have a short circuit somewhere. Try disconnecting everything from the blackbox and then see if it will power up.
    Alex.

I’ve tried connecting only the psu to the black box, no motors no switches and no usb, still the same thing.

Then I tried connecting the old black box, then everything is fine, except of course the original problem.

But the old box starts and I can connect and move all motors, then back to the new black box, and then no response.

If I disconnect the psu from the new black box and only connect the usb, the computer can recognize it

I've noticed you made contact with the store already as well, please keep your support tickets to one channel, duplication is not need. For warranties etc the store is the best option - they will sort you out from here :)
