before i pull the trigger on some c beam extrusion can anyone shoot this idea down? current spoil board support on a 1000 x 1000 machine are 3no 20 x 80 extrusions in the y axis sat on top of 2 mid 20 x 40mm extrusions and connected to the front and rear 20 x 40's in the x that make the frame. im finding a lot of flex and rattle in the support in the middle of the bed. idea is to get rid of the two 20 x 40's underneath and replace the 3 no 20 x 80's with 3 c beams front to back and fill any gaps with the 3no 20 x 80's i have removed. current plan is to just have the 3 c beams and maybe two of the 20 x 80's running front to back but no plan for them to be braced together in the x. i want some advice on whether getting rid of any x braces with cause flex in a different area to what im experiencing currently? cheers
Are you adding more L-brackets so the spolboard attaches to these (that would lock them together too) Spoilboard that floats on the braces would cause vibration and noise, best to attach it (more the better)
hi pete, yes plan on using some makerlink ,ooznest hidden tee's on the c beams, 4 on each end and 2 on each end of the 20 x 80's to the frame. my spoil board is currently fitted using l brackets from underneath, a real pain when it comes to changing spoilboard. was thinking of changing this and coming down through the top with some recessed bolts, washers and into some t nuts in the top of the c beam. was initially worried that removing any support in the x would cause a twist....?
