I have a modified LEAD 1010 machine with Makita RT0701C router and CNC xpro 3 controller. How can I convert the machine to a pen plotter?
I made one of these with a 1/4 bolt and I just put it in my Makita collet. It works very well. But, you need access to a 3D printer. CNC pen holder by TadasM
you just need a spring loaded pen holder, here is one made from plastic pipe and a balloon... here is one made from MDF sheet (hint, easy to cut on your LEAD )
I 3D-printed the CNC pen holder shown at CNC pen holder by TadasM - Thingiverse and "drew" a rectangle on a piece of plywood. I think that the one for Phlatprinter 3 is better but where can I get the files?
what files? you just draw it in Sketchup/CAD of your choice, generate Gcode using CAM of your choice, and cut it on the router. (-: That is why we have CNC routers!
I like that balloon method I may draw up and adaptor for the PVC that will fit my 8mm collet and 3D print it.
If you're using the standard OpenBuilds mount it would be fairly simple to cut a 71mm diameter drop-in block with a center hole to accept the balloon mount.
I 3D-printed a "router motor" that drops into my 3D-printed router mount. I 3D-printed a spring-loaded pen holder that goes inside the "router motor". I found out that the pen tip can't touch the table and I don't have extra plywood or MDF board.
I am too lazy to remove my router. Although, Santa just brought me a new RoutER11, so I may have to try it.
