Hi Guys, My father is having issues with probing. When he attempts to XYZ probe using the probing wizard ( custom probe )he gets an "error 9" immediately after the Z part of probe, however when he probes individual axis Z then X&Y the probe process completes successfully as expected. He's also tried probing XYZ with the probe plate inverted (as there is some surface damage on the probe plate for testing purposes and elimination) for XYZ and he gets the same issue, as soon as Z part of probe completes Z retracts approx 1mm and alarms. When he Z only probes, the probe completes successfully and retracts as expected by 10mm. Whats also interesting is that the Z position during the whole process is roughly central to the entire Z movement plane, so has circa 40mm travel up and down before hitting limit switches. His OS is MAC Monterey and has been successfully using hi Mac Pro 2.8ghz Quad core Intel i7 laptop with 16gb of ram for over 6 months, this issue has recently started in the last week. Also he was using v1.0.304 open builds with this issue, he's just updated to v1.0.312 and still has these issues. Any ideas gratefully received Regards Chris
1) Did you remember to HOME to establish the working envelope / machine coords so that Soft Limits knows where they apply? 2) Check your Max Travel values are correct: Grbl v1.1 Configuration · gnea/grbl Wiki 3) Alternatively, Disable Soft Limits until he is more familiar with the machine. Grbl Settings > Soft Limits > Disabled, then click Save, and Reset when Prompted. Validate his observations as well, did he perhaps remember to home for the individual axis tests, but the machine was not homed for the XYZ test?
Hi Peter, thanks for your reply. In answer to above; 1) On start-up clear alarm, home & set zero once homing completed, done as standard everytime and we've run through this issue around 20 times with various tests each time 2) $130=832.000 ; X-axis maximum travel, millimeters $131=814.000 ; Y-axis maximum travel, millimeters $132=84.000 ; Z-axis maximum travel, millimeters - this is as expected 3) Will be tried as soon as current job completed Cheers

Well the alarm would not be Soft Limits then, so do grab a screenshot so we can see why it errors out. Error 9 is just the symptom, which alarm locked it is the question.
@Peter Van Der Walt @David the swarfer Guys, thanks very much for your help, well, I have to be honest it appear the issue was down to a change in the working start position my dad was using, he recently re-surfaced the spoil board and in turn possibly reduced the spacers he was using as an offset to the homed X0Y0 point, therefore when the probe was positioned the programme couldn't move to the desired probing position, now he has changed his offset spacers to wider everything works. So now he moves from his usual x+20/x+20 start position to 30+ X&Y this gives enough space for the probing to go through its motion! Thank you once again! Regards Chris
