Im new to using the openbuilds control software, so I’m sure it’s something I’ve not configured properly but the couple of test jobs I’ve run all seem to be off in size.

I use Aspire to create the gcode, and my dimensions are correct in Aspire, but then when I run the job its coming out to be bigger than designed.

I’ve reviewed th grbl settings and nothing seems wrong there (to my novice eyes anyway) and I can’t quite figure out why job dimensions would be off by a few inches even after setting xyz zero to be center of my workpiece.

    2 examples attached
    1) the Salam Wood Works engraving is about 1 inch larger than I designed (pic 1)
    2) the starting point of a line as shown in the preview (pic 2) and I moved my mouse cursor to where it actually started (pic 3), which is about 4 inches below/to the left of where it’s supposed to start.

    Screenshots of my grbl settings.

    Any advise is greatly appreciated!

You need to calibrate the controller.
on Wizards and Tools menu. (and here for how to do it)

Calibrate over the longest possible distance with the most accuracy you can muster.
Leadscrew pitch (and belt pitch) is never the nominal value unless you paid NASA prices for it, every machine MUST be calibrated.

thanks for the response, that makes sense, I will try the calibration process and if there’s additional issues will post.

Calibration completed and it was indeed way off, the machine thought it twice the distance it actually moved (100mm on X and Y when in fact it moved only 200mm, Z was same thought it moved 50mm but moved 100mm).
Did another test carve and was sized perfectly.

last thing I have to do now is readjust the spindle height location. Previously had it too low, now move it to the top of the Z axis and that is too high. So will move it to near the middle and hopefully that should do it.
