I’m getting a deeper cut when running the openbuilds controller. I’ve run it on easel and the depth is correct. Where would one adjust this? Thanks a ton
There is so much you have not told us.... How did you do the drawing? How do you get Gcode from the drawing? (can we see it please? and tell us how deep you expect the cuts to be so we can check) What GUI are you using? OpenbuildsCONTROL? or some other GRBL compatible interface? Machine calibrated properly? Homed properly? then set WCS properly? Bit correctly fitted into collet and tightened? They are known to slip under load.
Man this response is going to be fun. there's a lot to this answer, let me see if I can break it down. I did the drawing in shapr3d and then exported in STEP. I dropped it into fusion 360 and set up my toolpaths there. I then export to my desktop and throw it into easel in this example I set the slots and pockets to .125, .25 .33 and .66. I use easel as I find that open builds makes me feel like im in a 1999 geocities webpage. not sure if my machine is calibrated but its square and trimmed and level. homed..yes. WCS good to go. bit is good. so I just ran this and everything was really almost exact depth wise. I have no idea what happened the other day. ill have to just stick with what I did today. sooooo......no problem here anymore. wait! one issue did arise in this test. the machine was spending way too much time dropping down to my stock. can you take a look at the code and see what I have to change in fusion? thanks a ton.
1 - You are using the wrong postprocessor (-: Please use the openbuilds one Releases · OpenBuilds/OpenBuilds-Fusion360-Postprocessor 2 - your plunge feedrate is 15ipm and it is using that for the entire 'plunge by spiral' movement, which is at a very shallow angle. So, many things you can adjust, the angle, the speed, even the method (though I do not recommend a straight down plunge, router bits are not drills) so your 'cutting feedrate' is 60ipm, set all the others to 45ipm (75% of 60). If you do some tests to prove you can use higher rates for plunge moves, then maybe you can set them all the same. on the Linking tab here you can adjust ramping angle. Most router bits of the 2 flute carbide type can do to about 15 degrees maximum, but your router may not be able to do that much, so... more testing. Clearance height is wasted motion, minimize it so you only get half a spiral turn above the surface. Leave 'lift height' at 0 Set 'noengagement feedrate' to the same as your cutting feedrate. I find trying to push that speed up can leave marks on the sides and surface of the cuts, your machine may differ,

so I switched over to that post processor and now im getting this. I have this setup like this... this picture I should say and when I post it looks like this. whats the deal with this new warning?
You will have to point out this 'new warning' as I don't think I see anything new. if you mean the yellow bit of text in the simulation edit box about there not being a post associated with this machine, then you can go into the machine setup and set it. 1 - rightclick your setup 2 - select 'edit' 3 - on the 'setup' tab, select 'edit' button under machine, then follow your nose to select the post for the machine
Yea. That’s what I mean. In the other screen shots I was showing that I’ve already added the PP. it’s strange that after being added that yellow bits popping up. I’ll try again.
so I did just that and ive done it a few times. I had used that approach a few times before I messaged you about it. heres the current status. I chose the open builds PP in the edit tab and even though im getting an actual simulation, im still getting the yellow warning.
number of work offsets must be 6 ultimately is does not matter, that is just a warning that you have not set a post for your 'machine config'. Setting a post for the setup is sufficient to generate Gcode, you dont need a machine configuration at all in order for the post to work
