    Yes! that's what i meant! Do you guys know a build with both of them installed? I would like to have a look before i purchase everything.

    He is referring to steppers, your question was:
    And for that, your control: Which device (VFD or Laser) has POWER. Its a single source signal, but seperate outputs, so, no, you cannot just wire a switch. Its also much safer to control Power so the laser doesn't fire accidentally.

    As you chose the 0-10v output, its indicative its a VFD, thus the way above is the recommended way (for several reasons)
    If you chose the regular, recommended RoutER11 or Dewalt 611 plugged into an IoT Relay way instead, you could use a switch, but you are not running that, so it does not apply - because its seperate signal outputs

    Control the power (which one is on, which one is off) - simple!

    Hi Peter,

    Now, I am checking again the outputs that the blackbox has. For the toolhead it has GND, PWM, DIR and 0-10V. So I can wire my laser (PWM), and the VFD to 0-10V, and the GND connected together. Also, I am installing a switch to power VFD or Laser, Am I right?

    Of course, I will need to change the configuration in Grbl.

    Yes, you wire them each as described in docs.openbuilds.com - and control which is active by means of a power switch for each. Grbl has one PWM output, we use the single output to supply the PWM pin (Laser) and also to generate the 0-10v signal (VFD) - so both will be signal-active, thus you control which is working for you, by ONLY switching the relevant device ON, and the other one OFF

    so i finally got a blackbox controller and figured out the code yeah i know im very behind everyone else

    i got the no more codes are available message has the promo finished or is it still ongoing

    also is there a plan to do a ghost case for the interface

    Hi there,
    Total electronics noob here, so sorry for the basic questions.
    I see the Black box has 4 4.0A drivers and a 10A input fuse. Does this mean that if I have 3 axes with 4A stepper motors that I can't have all 3 axes moving at the same time?

    No, you can. 10A @ 24v = 240w max
    4xmotors at 3A @3v * 2 coils = 18w per motor *4 motors = 72w towards the motors

    Just installed a new Black Box on my 1515. Now when starting the openbuilds GRBL software I have a blank white screen.

    Any ideas?

    - Try a different computer
    - Reinstall GPU drivers
    - Close all other running (even background) applications that may conflict
    - Reinstall OS

    I am working on a project where I have a linear actuator that I would like to use for the z-axis. This actuator is potentiometer controlled and has a single RC / Servo input signal wire. Can I use the BlackBox to control a potentiometer linear actuator? If so, how?

    Peter, Thanks for the reply. That article is helpful, but I am trying to use this servo for my z-motor input on the BlackBox. Does that change anything from the article?

    I am basically asking how I would wire a servo (with 3 prongs) to the 4 prong input that the BlackBox wants.

    The servo is seen as a toolhead (M3S commands, not Z commands), so just ensure your gcode outputs the required commands by editing the post

    The 4 pin motor output is for Stepper motors not servos

    Hey guys, just trying to double check I have this right:

    To use 12v laser & VFD / Spindle at the same time three things are needed, one being changing to laser mode in GRBL, the other switching power from one to another and finally removing the Relay Mode jumper (saw in the documentation for laser, I assume has no impact on the spindle?)

    Do I have it right in this diagram using a DPDT switch?

    As the laser is PWM, spindle is 0-10v its already seperate interfaces. No need to Control the signals. Only power on the relevant device. Vfd off, laser on = laser. Laser off, VFD on = spindle mode.

    I seem to have an M3 issue as well. Grbl is set to $30 = 1000. And even when I hit the fire button on Open control it only fires maybe 1 out of 5 times, very intermittently and the console reads the same output each time including m3s1000

    Check your Laser wiring as a first step. Grbl works fine, as does OpenBuilds CONTROL
    Also check your lasers PSU, and the module itself might be faulty

    Relay on board of black box wouldnt click...... i believe what was happening was that it was set to laser mode , and when i would use laser fire it also issued a g1. If i tried fire plasma directly after it would work for a while. Once i disabled laser mode it worked with regularity..... just seconds ago i ran an entire gcode file and THC and everything worked perfect. Ill update other thread, i had other issues that i have since ironed out. Thanks for your reply

    Anyone "unofficially" successfully running Blackbox on 36V? I know about the fan. Any other problems? I have an early BB and I'm about to replace my Gradus M1 Pro.

    It is likely to cause damage. Please stay on the recommended 24v.

    hmmm im no elctronix pro, but theoreticaly u should be able to run the steppers at 36 or even 48v with a simple circuit?
    thats what you want, u dont want the blackbox useing 36v, u want more torque for the steppers;)

    it should be simple like adding two spoons of sugar to the coffeeo_O:D

    on the stepper output u have the wires and u add a adjustable 0-24v source(seperate power supply), and the "circuit" should everytime the output(e.g x stepper) goes on, add those 12V(0-24V) offset to the steppers
    basicly its just an inverter thingo_O

    so maybe someone with more knowledge can make a "0-24V break out board for blackbox"o_O
    that is connected to the rear section with all the stepper outputso_O

    or maybe its simplier, cant u just plug those dm556 drivers between blackbox and stepper driverso_O:eek::confused:

    There is no "between the blackbox and stepper drivers" - the stepper drivers are integral to the blackbox. Your suggestion is theoretically possible if you want to modify the blackbox circuit boards, but that would, of course, totally invalidate the warranty.

    wouldnt it be more reliable to use drivers that can run at 36v. and either use step and dir from black box if you want, or sorry to say another grbl based control board. I believe from schematic, and a comment Peter made was that the black box consists of a brain (essentially and arduino uno), and a "muscle board that handles 24v goodies including motor drivers.

    Thanks all for the suggestions. It's not that I "need" to run 36v on steppers - it's just that my current PS is 36V and I didn't want to buy another one. (My Gradus M1 Pro and bigfoot drivers handled 36V just fine.) I'll either buy a 24V PS or just stick with the Gradus.

    I am a little disappointed. I understood that the fan was the only problem with 36V on BB. Guess things have changed....

    They sell buck converters. If that's cheaper than a power supply for you.

    Good evening gentlemen, I don't know if you have addressed this issue in the forum, personally I was not able to find a reference. I have set up a workbee with blackbox controller, was using previously an endurance laser with 2 wire connection with no issues. I recently replaced it with a chinese laser tree with 3 wire connection following the instructions on the openbuilds site connecting the ground wires from the power supply and the blackbox. The problem is that the new laser diode burns continuously between the shapes of a work. I don't know if Iam phrasing this correctly, e.g. cutting a circle inside a rectangle the laser burns across the two shapes destroying the work. I've checked the hardware connection multiple times I can't find an issue. PWM signal from blackbox with PWM on the laser and Ground from black box with the the Ground of the laser sharing the position with power supply ground. I would appreciate any help on this. Thank you.

    I am using exactly the same settings as the previous unit. The laser mode is enabled in the settings.
