Do I start the wizard from home right/rear or the front/left?

Okay I put in my area for flattening, I did .5mm for skimming. I did calibrate my x,y and z already. I Homed my machine then moved up to my left front and started the surfacing wizard. My machine jog to the correct position but plunged the surfacing bit into the spoilboard enough to stall the router. What step am I missing?

Do I leave the bit up or homed or lower it touching the spoil board?
