I just wired my XYZ Touch Probe Pro, but the green led is always on. Currently $6 is set to 0, is it safe to set it to 1? I read "You must also install external pull down resistor with the $6=1 setting," but I think it might be outdated.
$6=0 is the correct setting. You have a Ground Loop fault somewhere in your machine. Any after market parts like a VFD? Somewhere DC GND is shorting to AC EARTH (should always be seperate) See XYZ Probe Plus with VFDs and other ground-loop inducing components
Thanks, Peter. I ran a few continuity tests, but not sure what I am looking for. I got continuity between the spindle and all grounds connection except the two locations in the orange boxes. Here is a photo of my electronics. I have a HX8610 cnc machine. XYZ Touch Probe Pro wiring is outlined in the photo.
Couldn't see in your pic - what are the connections on that power supply - show the legend above the connectors if you can. Alex.
Always always? Or only when the magnet is attached to the collet? If its always-always, measure your boards Probe Input signal pin, to DC gnd. Should not be connected / not be low resistance. Perhaps your board was designed with a pull down on the input.
That does confirm that DC GND is present on the spindle body. Multimeter in continuity > One probe on the collet, the other on DC GND. You should see continuity. Now process of elimination: unplug the VFD, unplug the PC, unplug the CNC PSU, etc. Look for any other components that could create a path for the DC GND domain to cross over into AC EARTH (Remember GND and EARTH may sound similar, but are very different domains)
I do in fact have continuity between GND and EARTH. I couldn't determine the issue yesterday, but will try again today.
That is dangerous (not just a Probing issue) so best to find that short and resolve it yes! Process of elimination can be tedious, good luck!
Small update. Got the xyz touch probe plus to work using V+ and GND from the fan and lights since they have a separate power source. I sort of eliminated continuity between EARTH and GND, but only when the machine is off. I have to troubleshoot it more though.
