Even with my spindle unplugged, my VFD that has been working fine for over a year (still has same settings) goes into an Over Current error as soon as my Blackbox sends it a signal.

Tested the signal voltage and it is working as expected.

The power can be a little temperamental here rarely but I am not sure if the VFD is fried.

Is there something else I should check?

Possibly damaged IGBTs. If you still have warranty, refer the issue to the seller

This one was through eBay (still good seller) but I will probably just make the boss man buy a new one if you think it’s not a quick fix. They are pretty cheap at the so I think about AU$130 delivered is worth it.

Trying to get the boss to put up the money for some UPS stabilisation on our power. So far it has cost us 2 blackboxes and 2 VFD’s. I just can’t seem to compensate for the welders in this workshop.

Even on isolated points in the switchboard welders just seem to draw down so much it even impacts the building over the road making their lights flicker if the 2 lads are pulse welding.

Replaced the VFD with a brand new one and it just arrived today. Having almost the same problem. The spindle starts but as soon as it gets above 20 or so frequency on the VFD it stops the spindle and errors. If I unplug the spindle it works. Might just be a configuration issue and the new one has different settings. The photos with numbers come from my old settings.

Best to ask the VFD/Spindle Vendors about this issue - they should provide support / settings for their product

Yeah I think I will have to, I can get it to spin up now but the output from the Blackbox to the VFD drops once the spindle runs. Then jumps around in the lower voltages. Doesn’t seem to impact the speeds though but the VFD is doing stuff that I don’t understand. Thanks for your help though. I will find out who the manufacturer is.

Sounds like it'll mess up the Blackbox in no time!
