Hi, Newbie to CNC, I have put together a CNC3018 arduino machine for a friend and am testing it out before giving back to him. Using Fusion 360 CAD/CAM and grblControl software. I created a rectangular body and added text and images of a cat paw print from a SVG file downloaded from internet. Text and images extruded and put through the CAM with an end mill tool added (the bit is actually a V engraver but Fusion didn't like that for pocket clearing). Simulations look fine. Post processed OK and imported into grblControl (latest version for this and also CNC driver). When cutting the paw print the 4 toe pads are done perfectly as per design but when the foot pad is processed it cuts in a downward trajectory so by the final cut the foot pad is about 10mm below where it should be. I hope I explained that OK. So rather than the paw print looking like the design it has morphed into something else. Would this be an error is original SVG image file, something I have done wrong in extruding or in programming the cut? Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the links, I will check them out. The software that came with the machine was a pirated copy of ARTCam which I wasn't prepared to use so found Fusion 360 free version.
is this for all the paw prints or just one? so far I cannot see a problem in the gcode excepting that it is generated by that awful default grbl post that fusion supplies, please use the OpenBuilds one from docs:software:fusion360 [OpenBuilds Documentation]
It was the first paw print cut, I aborted the operation because it wasn't right and didn't want to waste time cutting further. I uploaded OpenBuild post processor but when I ran the new gcode file it drove the spindle into the job piece. Not sure what I did wrong as all I did was change the post processor. I think I will abandon trying to get a pocket clearing operation and will try basic engraving as that is all my friend will use the machine for. cheers
You forgot to HOME. Fusion uses Machine Coordinates in addition to Work Coordinates. Home first, then Set Zero
your Y axis is losing steps. check all grubscrews, the motors vibrate and tend to loosen everything. make sure the leadscrews are clean and nuts are correctly adjusted. how heavy is your router? your acceleration may be just too high to handle the weight.
