Do each set of coil wires on a bipolar stepper have to be connected to say A+,A- or does it make any difference. If so how do you tell which is + ,which is - -
See docs:blackbox-4x:faq-identify-motor-coils [OpenBuilds Documentation] to learn all about that. +/- doesn't really matter - what matters is a "a coil" on "A" and "the other coil" on "B" If motor spins the wrong way round - swop 1234 to become 4321 on the plug
Thanks Peter. Just never could figure out why The connections always show + - if it makes no difference
Thanks Peter. Just could never figure out why the connections always show +,- if it makes no difference?
It does make "a difference" - direction the motor spins - but so easy to correct if you do get it "wrong" that it doesn't really matter. If you have our motors, our Documentation shows the right order. For 3rd party motors, you don't know what it should be anyway, so identify the coil pairs, test, and if its wrong correct by reversing the pairs 1234>4321
To add do the confusion, when changing direction I've only ever swapped one coil, like 1234 to 2134 maybe Peter has a reason for swapping both? Gary
Yes hope Peter can shed some lite. Basically just want to know which colors go to A and which to b on the box.
If you have Openbuilds motors use the wiring diagrams in the documentation section (docs:blackbox-4x:connect-nema23 [OpenBuilds Documentation]), but if you have motors from somewhere else there's no standard colour code (I've even come across a supplier - not Openbuilds of course - who supplied motors with different colour codes in the same kit). See the section on troubleshooting if you have motors that are not from Openbuilds. docs:blackbox-4x:faq-identify-motor-coils [OpenBuilds Documentation] Alex.
