Ok I’ve run myself crazy trying to connect to my BlackBox in every way possible! Not sure what’s going on but the interface is version 1.51 on the screen when powered up but inside the case it says version 1.7 so with the interface connected via the correct cord per instructions and the flash drive installed on the interface when I power on all the interface does is flash between the open builds logo with firmware version and starting screen. The Drive icon is lit green but all it does is beep and go back and forth between screens. I have tried numerous times to update firmware from the usb c cord via the desktop through openbuilds control and select the interface tab on wizard but to no avail it has nothing in there to load. so I’m other words I’m obviously not computer savvy and am getting frustrated!
V1.51 = Firmware version - you should update to V1.57 though, 1.51 is a bit old: docs:interface:firmware-update-control [OpenBuilds Documentation] V1.7 = Hardware version = latest at the time of this reply That computer MUST be connected to the internet to download the latest version, which will populate a version number into the dropdown. If its blank, that computer is offline / firewall is blocking CONTROL
If the PC has working internet, CONTROL will show the available Firmware version: If not, allow CONTROL through the firewall, make sure the computer can reach github.com and reboot.
Then as mentioned above: and also If it can't reach the Internet, it can't fill in the "version block" for you
When you were installing CONTROL it would have asked for firewall permission, you likely clicked Deny then Allowing an application through the firewall is described here How to allow apps through firewall on Windows 10 - Pureinfotech
Ask a friend, or try a different computer You can't give up yet, if you are on Interface Firmware still, I bet you also haven't updated the BlackBox firmware, plus ongoing maintenance will need updates occationally. If your PC worked as it should, updating firmware is in total a 15 second process - not worth giving up on.
Just purchased the 1010 basically with all the add ons and just started the process of connecting so guess I’ll figure it out eventually. Thanks for the help but it’s kicking my behind and am not grasping all the procedures to get up and running.
Motors not enabled: You have to load a machine profile (as shown in the LEAD1010 wiring and software video) CONTROL > Grbl Settings > Select a machine from the list > Save > Reset Prepare everything properly: Also don't forget to update X32 firmware: CONTROL > Wizards and Tools > Firmware Flashing > X32 to update BlackBox Firmware (as mentioned in section 7.1 - 7.2) the Blackbox Docs PS Did you remember to disable Windows's USB Selective Suspend (Section 4.2 of the Blackbox Docs) - as you seem to have skipped over other documentation sections, I am asking now, otherwise you will soon come back saying your machine randomly disconnects. PS(2) Did you test your Limits using the Troubleshooting Tab in CONTROL (otherwise you might soon have to ask why your limit switches broke and homing doesn't work) Don't skip the videos and documentation You should work through the documentation BEFORE you begin to save all the frustration. See the BlackBox, Interface, and Software sections at the minimum : start [OpenBuilds Documentation] And then don't skip any steps Future learning curve Before you get into CAM setups, be ready to watch several YouTube video tutorials, machine setup is comparatively easy (just follow the documentation).
Thanks Peter! I will back up and punt and I’m sure it will all come together. Yep I’m guilty of jumping ahead and that’s my downfall! Hopefully I’ll be able to report back with all is well.
