Hey everyone, I’m stumped I have a lead 1515 and for some reason I can’t make a perfect circle or hole with my machine. I thought it was took deflection slowed everything down to 5 in/min and got the same results. Thought maybe it was something with fusion. So I played with different tool paths and that wasn’t it either. Any ideas would be great! Thank you in advance!
Looks as though you have some backlash in your machine. If your pics are orientated with the Y axis vertical then the issue is in your X axis. Starting at the bit wiggle things looking for anything moving that shouldn't - check nut blocks, router mount, bearings and lock collars and motor couplers and eccentric adjustment. Alex.
Hey Alex! The only “play” that I have is on the X axis where router is mounted. How would one go about it and tighten everything up?
Are you sure a shaft coupler of tension nut is not lose? It definitely looks like a mechanical issue to me.
So I’ll be totally honest. I bought the machine pre assembled and I have clue what and where the shaft couplers are located
in the docs there are assembly videos, you should watch them, knowledge is power (-: OpenBuilds LEAD CNC Machine 1515 (60" x 60")
There are flexible shaft couplers on the stepper motors. If the person tht built it did not get them good and tight and use blue loctite, they may have loosened leading to backlash.
As someone who's just reassembled a used machine that was 'working great', I'd strongly recommend watching the build video and going through your machine and just checking over the assembly. I found a surprising number of loose screws, mis-adjusted V-wheels, and other seemingly minor assembly issues that would have likely stacked up to unsatisfactory performance. Now that I've gone through it all I know it's all tight. Most importantly I understand the mechanics, so when I do encounter issues, I have a better chance of troubleshooting and correcting them.
