Hey all! I’m new to the forums, but I was hoping that I could maybe get some help from you guys! So recently my buddy and I finished assembling the 1515 CNC router, and we plugged in the Interface, but as we turned it on, we realized the axies wouldn’t function via the touch. Every time we give a command, the motors ‘skip’ (usually the Y axis motors regardless of which motor we try to turn. My first assumption is that it is a problem with the eccentric bearings, but we aren’t sure. Any help or questions welcome. Thanks guys!
Did you remember to load a machine profile? (CONTROL > Grbl Settings > Select machine from the list > Save -- or Interace > Tools and Utils > Load Grbl Profile (make sure interface is up to date on firmware and USB has been prepped from CONTROL as per Interface Docs)
Mine does the same thing, the Z axis drags on one motor throwing the gantry out of alignment, I have checked the square, all the motors are wired correctly. Once it gets out of alignment it runs sommothly.
Not related to the original post (which was all axes without any power). But lets see: Motor going out of alignment can only be one of: 1) Wiring: docs:software:overview [OpenBuilds Documentation] 2) Acceleration or Max rate set too high: Grbl v1.1 Configuration and Grbl v1.1 Configuration 3) Mechanical slippage (Check grubscrews on shaft couplers) or Binding (something adjusted incorrectly, leadscrew not bedded in yet, dirt or damaged rail creating a spot it gets stuck on, dirt on leadscrew, etc)
I have re-wired the motor, I have switched the Y and the Y2 motors on the black box, and it produces the same results. I don't know how to check the gbrl settings, andthe grub screws are tight with the motor flat spot being on the clamping spot.

No binding, I re-tensioned the lead screw, but the Y2 motor just grinds while the Y motor moves the Gantry, I fear it will bend the Frame. But after it grinds for about 30 steps, it starts to move, but the gantry is now so out of alignment my only option is to move it back to the stops and line it back up.
When you switched Y and Y2 was it the same side of the machine that didn't move? How much of the wiring did you switch? If it was the same side of the machine and you didn't swap all the wiring with the motors it could be a wiring fault, although I'm more inclined to think its a mechanical issue from what you have said. Have you tried; A) reducing max speed and acceleration B) adjusting the motor current (the factory settings are usually fine though) Alex.
Does the motor grind, or does is stall, which causes the noise. To figure that out take both motors OFF the machine and test on the bench (good practise anyway to avoid damaging mechanical components) - you can apply some grip to the motor shaft to see if its weaker than the other Y motor, or the same.
I am just about to the point of boxing it up and sending it back, I can't get anybody on the phone to help, and it takes 24 hours to get a response from http://support.openbuilds.com/support/home. Mark used to get on the phone with me and help with any problems I had back when he was Phlatboyz. I could have bought a good used car for what I paid for this machine, it should just work!
That sounds like mechanical binding. Support here has been helping you here, but at this point partial teardown to investigate the binding may be a good check. Check wheels, leadnuts, leadscrew (lubricate with dry/ptfe lube if needed) all shims and spacers installed etc.

I think I actually fixed the issue with the Z axis. I took the motors of, pulled the lead screws, brought the gantry up to the bump stops, reinserted the lead screws, then put the whole thing back together again. It seems to not be dragging anymore. But I will test extensively this morning to see. Peter, thanks for your Help!!!!
