    Hello,

I'm new to the DIY CNC space and all these possibilities are awesome! I have a few questions though (and many more to come). I stumbled on the Outback CNC on the maker store and it seems similar to what I want. I don't feel like this is as popular as a Sphinx or 0X setup though. Is there any reason why? The linear rails and heavy duty C beams seem like this is a very rigid machine.

That being said, I don't like how some designs (like the Outback) have the Z axis motor moving both the spindle and Channel holding the spindle. I feel like it would be less load if the Z axis motor only move the spindle and a plate which ran on linear rails. Maybe I'm overthinking this though, can someone shed some light on this?

Thank you! I'm excited to get into the designing/building for this!!

you will be happier with changing the Z so the channle stays still and only the plate holding the router moves, like the Sphinx.
I have the moving channel style on my Ox and plan to rebuild to use the Sphinx style, it IS better.

Okay that's what I figured, it felt weird moving the extra weight for no reason, thanks for the feedback!
