The X32 supports Rotary work yes. Post Processors are still in beta - you are welcome to help test docs:software:vectric [OpenBuilds Documentation]
i will try. i will convert and save in mm. the Inch version does not work and the rotary demon version does not as configured
the mm post does not work with the rotary. I have all my axi moving and calibrated to eliminate that question. all axi moving when manually jogged. Where can i find a usable answer. I know there is the option to trade axi. That is sort of defeating the purpose of upgrading to the x32 to take advantage of the 4th axis capability.
You have access to Vectric support as part of your licence, if you don't mind checking in with them, they may have other Posts available. You want something that supports the A-axis on GrblHAL. Vectric Support is the best place to contact for Vectric specific questions. But... PS. I don't think Vectric does full 4th CAM does it? (not just the Post, it actually doesn't support full 4 axes, no toolpaths that move all 4 axes at the same time) only rotary (XYZ, or XZA or YZA) You may need to look at Fusion360 etc
So this controller has been around for almost 3 yrs and no one has written a vectric post processor for 4 axis?
That's incorrect: The BlackBox X32 was launched a couple months ago... Its predecessor, the BlackBox 4X was only a 3-Axes controller running grbl (not grblHAL) and also hasn't been available for 3 years, it was actually on the market since late 2018. But, even that history that's beside the point, the 4th axes Fusion 360 Post is in Beta and available here (please consider it beta, and report an issues): https://raw.githubusercontent.com/O...sor/master/OpenbuildsFusion360PostGrblX32.cps (Save as .cps file and follow usual Post install instructions) Vectric itself is a 3-axes CAM. It does support rotary (2-axes+rotary = 3) but not full-on 4th axes work - for that you need a way more advanced CAM Make sure you understand the difference between 4-axes, lathe and 2-axes+rotary (all look very similar, make sure you know which one you actually are referring to) All CAMs are 3rd party and you should actually contact the CAM vendor for specific assistance.
Sorry, I am just a little frustrated to not be able to use a true 4 axis set up. Im researching deskstop proto, as i really cant justify the expense of f360 for a limited use add on to my machine.
DeskProto is good too (Haven't used its 4-axes mode but have used it for lathe on the old BlackBox before). At the end of the day, you want a 4-axes CAM that supports A-Axis on grblHAL. I have not seen a free 4-axes CAM yet, so you will likely be looking at paid options
Im ok with a paid option. I dont want to have to continually pay for something i use once in a while. I have even put feelers out to find someone to write a post processor or something to convert the vectric output to useable 4 axis gcode. Maybe im just too impatient. Someone will surely come up with something.
So this still leads me to believe you might be in the dark (As Vectric is a 3-axes CAM in foundation) 4-axes is not just gcode but fundementally different toolpath strategies. What do you consider 4-axes work? What is your machine like? What kind of work are you expecting it to produce?
I understand full well the complexity of the task. There are gadgets in vectric to do the wrap. Perhaps that same thing could be done to convert the x or y travel to the a axis......................
Wrap is very different from "4-axes" work... Wrap around A is possible in Vectric... but its not "4th".... Its 2+Rotary (X, Z and A for example)
Maybe the newness of grblhal and 4 axis capabilities. I have sent a message to them to find out if they have one. I am awaiting a response. Im in Texas and they are Netherlands. May be a time difference. f
I can't offer much help, but I am curious if you have more details as to why or how the rotary demon pp failed you. It works great on my rotary axis, but I am calling that one the Y axis because I use Vectric. I assume that is the reason, but was still curious. Thanks.
It has not failed. The point is I upgraded to x32 to use full functionality of 4 axis. I am testing wrap and rotary demon now. It can work, better suited to a stand alone lathe set up than an add on.
just discovered something easy and useful Open gcode in Visual Studio Code or notepad Then replace all Y to A 30 second to do that
No betas at this time. Vectric used rarely for this (Vectric is a 3-axes CAM, not a 4th axes. Wrapping is still 3 axes) most 4-axes users go for Fusion 360 or Deskproto these days
So I I will use my "rotory" as A axis and not have a Y axis ( a lathe), using Black Box X32 controllor Vectric V Carve Pro (in Rotary) on a C-Bream XL what Post Processor will I use? Do I need to use y or y2 connection from the black box to the A axis?
That's a 3 axes machine, can just run it like the old days (Wrap around Y with the Demon Post from LEAD Lathe) (Avoids the need for A-axis edit of the post processor, can use it just as it is) Someday when you want to explore Fusion 360 or a more advanced CAM than Vectric, or spend some time editing the Demon post to make it a A-Axis post - then you can flash it as 4th axis
