I am just getting started and was wondering what end mills you use most. I am looking to do mostly wood with some occasional aluminium. Are the cheaper sets worth getting or do you get what you pay for? What does your basic starter set consist of? Thanks Russ
Having a couple cheapies to learn with is a good idea (they dull in no time, but is less of a loss when you crash them while learning cutting parameters) and you cannot go wrong with CNC Router Bits - CNC Bit Kits - OpenBuilds Part Store
I love the Openbuilds Down-Cut 2 Flutes Solid Carbide End Mill 1/4" end mill for wood working, but as Peter said, but a couple cheaper ones to get started with. Also, don't accidentally use the downcut if you are cutting aluminum like I did. It is an expensive mistake. I also have one of the sign making kits. I bought a bowl cutting bit form Spe tools (OpenBuilds needs to add a bowl bit to their catalog) and it worked well for this project. I used the OpenBuilds 1/4 downcut for the profile cut on this project.
Thanks Peter. That is exactly what I wanted to know. My only problem is I am in Australia so a bit of a wait for items shipped from O/S. Cheers Russ
plenty of suppliers in Australia, use the OB page to figure out what you want, then look for it in-country.
