Looking at building my first CNC - need some guidance please

    Good evening,

    I am looking at building my first CNC and for the sake of making it easy, I'm going with the C-Beam linear actuators.

    Here's what I'm thinking:

    2x 1000mm C-Beam® Linear Actuator Bundle (C-Beam® Linear Actuator Bundle) for my Y Axis (Can I run these both off of the same port on the interface board?)
    1x 1000mm C-Beam® Linear Actuator Bundle (C-Beam® Linear Actuator Bundle) for my X Axis (Would this C-Beam alone be sufficient enough to hold up the Z Axis with a Makita Router or do I need to put some cross bars for added stability?)
    1x 250mm C-Beam® Linear Actuator Bundle (C-Beam® Linear Actuator Bundle) for my Z Axis (I plan on putting a shield on this one - do I need one on the others?)

    Table top would be 12x 1000mm V-Slot® 20x80 Linear Rail (V-Slot® 20x80 Linear Rail) - I know this is 960mm and I'm accounting for a little space on both sides + putting the cable chain on one side.

    The Base (Y axis) would be held together with 3x 1000mm V-Slot® 20x80 Linear Rail (V-Slot® 20x80 Linear Rail)

    I planned to connect the X axis with 2x 500mm V-Slot® 20x80 Linear Rail (V-Slot® 20x80 Linear Rail) - one on each side.

    As I get more into building the parts / trying to make the frame as sturdy as possible - I keep thinking of more things I might need - such as between the Y Axis C-Beam's, should I put some 920mm v-slot rails? I was thinking something like: 4x 920mm 1010-s (1010-S) (to help stabilize the table top in the middle (roughly 7 inches apart)) and 2x 920mm 1030-s (1030-S) (for the front and back)

    My plan is to have the option to put a 5th axis on the table top to be able to taper wood dowels - ideally, I'd want this part removable so I can use the entire top if needed.

    Can I hook both of my Y-Axis motors into same spot on my board so that I can use a 4axis board or do I need to get a 5 or 6 axis board instead? What do you recommend?

    My motors are: Wantai 4Axis Nema23 57BYGH115-003 3A 425oz 4leads&Driver 4.2A 50v (I purchased this 7 years ago on eBay and never took them out of the box because I decided to go to school and now I am wanting to actually build my CNC Machine - If I need to buy new motors, what do you recommend I get?

    I plan on getting 2000mm of Drag Chain Cable (for Y->X and X->Z)

    I was going to connect everything with Corner brackets / drop in nuts for screws .(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078GKCK8W and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BMLY9MZX)

    Did I miss anything?

    Have you considered Machine Kits - LEAD Machine - OpenBuilds Part Store

    As your first machine, a proven base kit, that you can modify in future, is a solid choice to avoid frustration. There are a lot of little tricks to designing a well performing machine, and using a proven design like the LEAD gives you that head start

    Welcome to OpenBuilds @PharmD :thumbsup:
    Peter makes a good point in that starting off with a working machine built like a LEAD will help you understand the system during the build, and because of this understanding and of course the modular nature of the system, it will inspire you to modify and adapt the build to your liking.
    Either way you go we hope you have fun on your cnc journey ahead!
