Using Control software and an X32 Black Box to run a homebuilt 3 axis router. After running through the Control calibration process on the x axis then doing a 1" incremental jog, the machine moves exactly 3 inches. If I redo the calibration and tell it to move 100 mm, it moves 300. Y axis calibration is similar. Haven't tried Z.
Sounds like you don't have a good starting point for your steps per mm, need to figure that out first and go to cal from there. post your settings and the specs of the motors and drive you are using (type of screws or rack or belt) Regards Gary
The motors are OpenIbuilds High Torque. The machine is a 4X4 Rack & Pinion. Don't understand about the starting point. Tony
you don't need a starting point other than what you already have, it is possible to calibrate a completely unknown system.... do not use jogging to calibrate, rather use the calibration wizard built into the OpenBuildsCONTROL software (but first make sure your maxrate and accelerations are sensible, you cannot calibrate if you are missing steps!). measure over a longer distance than the default 100mm! do the calibration 3 times : calibrate return to start point reset Blackbox repeat the theory is at HOWTO Calibrate your CNC Machine for MACH3 or GRBL but the wizard does it all for you really.
David... thanks for the reply. The problem I'm having is that after using the wizard to set the steps and then jogging to verify, the jog is way off.
so the calibration is correct, but the jog is not? stepped or continuous jog? at what speed is the jog? set it slow, what result? set it fast, what result? what about a commanded move like G0 X200 does that move it 200mm from the X0 you set?
I think I found the problem. I went into the grbl settings and set the machine profile to unknown and the calibration routine started working. Tony
