Rotary Table, 4th Axis 6" Would like something that can hold a 10" diameter piece? Cbeam build, no y axis, just an a axis rotary setup is the goal. I have been looking on ebay too. Has anyone recently purchased a rotary axis and set it to the openbuilds machine? Any body familiar with the programing - the degrees?ratio to make sure the axis is inline with the other axis? Thanks
I built the LEAD lathe referenced above. If you are using Vectric Software, the postprocessor I use works great. It converts mm to degrees. I have the ability to cut up to 8 inches due to how high I built my X axis, and the fact i put it in an enclosure. I may revisit that if I feel I need to cut larger items. My chuck is a 100mm 3 jaw chuck. I made adaptor plates (Adaptor Plates For Non-round Stock For A 3 Jaw Chuck) that mount to the work stock so I can cut items larger than 100mm and do not need round stock. Looking back on it now, I could have saved a lot of money with a 65mm chuck using the same adaptor plates.
Your build is awesome. I use vcarve, is the post processor your design, or one for the Blackbox? I am currently using a bobscnc revolution with vcarve, works well but I would like to build my own. Something bigger and a little more sturdy. Hopefully you would be OK taking some questions if I start my build.
I got the post processor from here: Rotary Post processor I modified it a bit so it posts the finished file in the .nc format. You do not need to if using an OpenBuilds Blackbox. The post processor works as is. I am open for questions.
