I expect I have missed a step somewhere.

I purchased a c-beam tension xl linear actuator bundle, a powersupply and power case, and a blackbox x32.

All arrived yesterday and I assembled today.

At the end of the build video, they say to hook up the x32 to the the power supply, the stepper motor, and a laptop running openbuilds control.

I hit the “connect” button and it seems to do that…. At least I don’t see any errors.

At that point the stepper is supposed to be locked, but it doesn’t feel any different. The video also suggests that I can jog it at this point…. But selecting “continuous jog” and as hitting the jog button moves only the blue dot on the control programs 3d view- the stepper motor does nothing.

When hooking up the wiring the stepper wires were in the order yellow, green, blue, red (left to right). I used this pattern for the 4 wire cable, although I saw some things on the internet that made me question this.

Can anyone spot what I may be doing wrong? I got this to build a “track plasma cutter” to get my feet wet in cnc. When comfortable I want to build a plasma table.

Did you remember to load a machine profile from Grbl Settings tab > Select machine from the list > Save and reset when prompted? LEAD1515s profile will do for an actuator

Nope, I didn’t realize that was needed. There actually a is a C-Beam XL in the machine profile, but after selecting/saving/reloading I still don’t have any stepper action

Then check the PSU. To move a motor you need the right Grbl Settings (double check you did use CONTROL V1.0.370, did remember to save and did reset so it boots up with the settings) and working power (psu on, lit up, 24v at the controller, wired correctly, BlackBox power switch on?)

Your advice was spot on…. I measured the power supply voltage and wasn’t getting anything, then noticed the switch for input voltage being set to 230V. Changing this to 115V has everything working now.

    Thanks!

Yeah didn't guess that one, the big yellow sticker is usually a good clue :)

    Not big enough I guess!

I’ve heard what they say about assumptions, but I assumed it would be set up for 110 as that is the cord that comes with it.

    thanks again!
