Hello, I am getting a grinding noise when moving to Z gantry to the top of the Z axis (Video attached). I did tighten the tensioning block which was a bit loose due to wear and tear. I have also sprayed with dry lubricant and done a general clean. The lead screw does not appear to be bent and it only happens at the top end closer to the step motor. I’m concerned as I am installing a Water cooled spindle and will no doubt be adding more weight for the motor and lead screw. Any idea where this is coming from and what to do? thanks.
Is the flexible coupling rubbing on the top of the extrusion cover plate? If so, it may be an indication that the lower lock collar on the lead-screw has moved.
Hmmm, will look at that. I didn’t suspect it before since the noise only comes when the gantry is towards the top of the c beam. Thanks for the input. Will keep you posted.
Yes indeed it was the flexible coupler rubbing. I had eliminated it before as a possible suspect since it would have been spinning at all levels of the gantry height and the noise was only occurring at the top. Nonetheless it afforded me the opportunity to overhaul the z axis assembly and discover and tighten the backlash nut block. thank you.
