I have a wheel that appears to be worn our and the bearing rubbing against the rail and locking the arm up. 1. Can i remove it and run without it until I get a replacement? 2. Is there one I can get on Amazon as I need it like NOW, to fill orders? 3. Any local stores have any by chance....grainger, i don't know....any pace I am desperate THank you for any help and quick replies
I have hade one break before and was able to run without it for a short period of time. What machine is it and how many wheels on that axis?
Upper or lower wheel? The lower do not bear the weight so it may not be noticeable. It may not on the upper either.
its upper thinking about toking it off and swapping a lower wheel to the top side and leaving the lower side void until I can get a replacement. Thoughts? Are the openbuild a 5mm bore
took the wheel off and not bad actually and the arm still wont roll foward so something else is causing it to lock up....no idea.... any thouhgts? thrust bearing maybe?
From here we can't see either. At the machine, close up inspection. Partial disassembly if it has to. You are the only person at it, who can see and feel and poke and push to see what's damaged. Check wheels, check leadscrew, check trust bearings (can get damaged if leadscrew is overtensioned), check nut blocks, check that slots are clean so wheels can roll. Check it it really is stuck (maybe the motor isn't spinning but you can move the assembly fine by hand). In that example check motor wiring. Check grubscrews on shaft coupler - if its loose motor spins but slips in shaft coupler and doesn't spin leadscrew. Get in there
Ok , so i replaced the thrust bearings as they were a bit beat up. It is now running BUT....the wheel I thought was ruined seems to be bearing all the weight. I can't figure out how to get the pressure spread out amongst all the wheels. I have been adjusting all the eccentric nut but nothing seems to loosen tension on the one wheel. what can i be missing?

Isnt the wheel maybe getting stuck once you tighten the nut? (Usually a sign its missing its shim inside between the bearings)
well it ran for most the day and locked up again. In the topside of the y axis rail I can only seem to get the front and back wheels closest to the outside of the machine to seem to make contact when it is running. I did have the wheel off and it would spin fine so not sure if that answers your shim question. I can turn it the coupling connected to the motor with my hand and ir will move but then get locked ….it sometimes frees up and lets me turn it with no issues. I am going to take off the tension nuts again to see if I blew the thrust bearings again but need help understanding what could be causing it. How tight should the screw be? And where should I try and wiggle it …right next to the z axis arm or in a section that is an open span so it actually has some room to move ?
Its shown in the machine build video but not very tight at all. The stepper motor holds the leadscrew while you apply pressure to the nut (too much force and the motor will skip). If you hold the leadscrew some other way (tools) its too much Wheels don't really bind up a machine. Make a video let's see what it sounds like when it binds
Leadscrews squeeking, try some Dry/PTFE lubricant (not oil). That will lower the friction a lot. Try lowering Acceleration rate on Y to half current value for a bit too, doesn't stall at speed, always at the start of the move so acceleration might be a bit high.
Do you mean dial it down in the settings on the openbuilds control software or in my tool path? also I had to replace another thrust bearing to get it moving again
Make sure you aren't overtensioned. Its just to prevent sag. If its needing excessive tension not to whip like crazy the leadscrew might be bent or missing shims/spacers under nutblocks. Try the lubricant first, then adjust acceleration. Acceleration is a Grbl Setting not a Toolpath option see Grbl v1.1 Configuration
I had very recently just sprayed the teflon spray which was a second time in a short period so it should be lubed well. how far do I turn the acceleration down
The Grbl Wiki described the process. But go for half current value now, see if it helps first. Get the patient stable first then retune for how fast you can go without stalling
Ok I need help again...lol have been running ok but I had a computer crash and since I got it back online I swear the machine is running the router in the opposite diretction and I am cutting foam and now the foam is coming out fuzzy after it is cut. Tried a fresh bit and still the same thing. H How can I change the direction it runs....so it goes back to the way it was
