    Hi everyone,

I’m working on a couple of projects for my university and I’m looking for some advice on using the BlackBox X32 (BBX32). I’ll break down my questions for clarity:

    1. BlackBox X32 for CNC Control:
    • Project: I’ve successfully used a TwoTrees board to control the axes of a proprietary Bungard CNC, but now I want to use the BBX32 to control both:
      • The VFD spindle, and
      • The ATC pressurized air control.
    • Main Question:
What is the IC used to control the stepper motors on the BBX32? I’d like to get the datasheet and compare its parameters with the board I’m currently using to determine if switching to the BBX32 would be an upgrade or a downgrade.
    2. Refurbishing a Pick-and-Place (PNP) Machine:
    • Project: I’m planning to refurbish a PNP machine to make it compatible with OpenPNP software, using the BBX32.
    • External Drivers: I have external stepper drivers with an exceptionally high resolution of 1/1200 microstepping, which I want to use for this project.
    • Main Question: As far as I know, the BBX32 doesn’t provide external DIR/STEP pins. I’m considering desoldering the built-in driver ICs and creating a simple jumper PCB that connects the DIR/STEP pins to the A+, A-, B+, B- connectors to use the external drivers.
      • Do you think this is feasible?
      • Would this modification allow the use of my external drivers?
    Final Thoughts:
I’m planning to buy one BBX32 board initially to open up and test these ideas. If things work as expected, I’ll move forward with both projects. Any insights, suggestions, or experiences with similar setups would be really helpful!

Thanks in advance for your help!

TB67S109AFTG | Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation | Asia-English - very good drivers, reliable and strong. Configured to 1/8th microstepping for more torque by default

Board tightly packed, traces on inner layers too - not feasible.

Can access step/dir signals on the interboard connector - just wire off from there if you really have to

More microstepping = loss of torque. Microsteps does NOT increase resolution (machine will still jump to fullsteps - microsteps are just interpolated during a move to smooth it out a bit)
