Black Box Probe show closed loop before touching plate

    Definately implemented in the V1.2s, they'll phase in in-time. Its really an over the top improvement as it only becomes a problem when a couple different issues pile up first:
    • Switch mounted upside down
    • linear rails
    • vfd spindle
    RoutER11 and Dewalt has double isolated bodies. Switch mounted right-way up has the rubber pad. V-Wheels insulate as well. Needs a couple incorrects combined before its an issue. The upside down mounting is the odd one though and easiest to fix, just mount it right way round.

    I am not sure if this is the correct place for this but this is where i found the most help.
    Please excuse the long winded intro but I want to give as much information as possible.

    Ok I have a x32 black box upgrading my CNC. I use a VFD driven spindle. When using the probe, I have been getting the green light on as soon as I connect the lead to the spindle so after looking through the posts here, I have a bridged connection somewhere. Here is the error I get when I start the probe.

    error:9 - G-code locked out during alarm or jog stateG4 P0.4

    I have searched and searched using a multimeter as recommended. I have removed every plug at both ends and connected the probe and nothing else. The green light is on. I removed the earth to the spindle and found the green light goes off. I then reconnected everything one at a time with the spindle earth removed to see if there were any other leaking connections. All good so the problem is the earth to… something. I could not find where I had another earth or negative short. I have double and triple checked the wiring as per the X32 documentation.

    Today I was back fault finding. I started to look for the fault again. I had the computer on, and I forgot to turn the power on to the VFD and X32. The X32 had power from the computer via USB. When I realized I still had a leak I powered down the computer and removed the USB,

    I looks like my leak is somehow from the computer connected to the USB and then through the earth.

    I am using a Dell PC in a school. I found this post, and looked into a different monitor still not fixed.


    I have removed every plug from the X32 including power and only plugged in the computer (PC) USB and the probe. I still get the green LED lit up. So, there is a connection from the USB to the probe somewhere in the X32. Is this logic correct?? And if so, should this be the case?

    Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

    X32 is DC domain only. No connection to AC Earth so can't be there. USB is DC only too.

    The PC has an AC Earth though so internal short inside PC PSU or case (motherboard mounted without isolation washer or chaffed through cable or some other failed component) sounds like the more likely source then.

    To create a full or partial short the two domains, DC GND and AC Earth has to at least be present there to accidentally short/fail to each other...

    BlackBox does not have any physical connection to AC Earth in that test.

    Quick test with a laptop or other (non Dell in case that range all has the same issue, Dell OEM tends to be a bit weird sometimes, sometimes doing thing like their own weird shaped power supplies with different plugs instead of more standard ATX etc so who knows) should help

    Thank you so much for the advice. After a little testing and running from my Mac Book the CNC is not fully operational and running like a dream. I have even convinced out IT department to purchase a new Mac Book for the CNC as the Dell desktop was an old out of service machine.
