Just bought a new BlackBox and connected it using my original wiring harness. I connected power and it came up with (Connect) Error! No response from controller see https:/faq-usb connection failed for trouble shooting information ; closing port. Followed procedures about disconnecting all wiring except the computer connection wire shut down computer brought it up connected to com same msg. Downloaded driver updates and checked my com settings. The new BlackBox com settings are different compared to the old BlackBox Com7 Silicon Labs USB UART and Com1 Motherboard Serial Port. tried both ports for connection but still receive (connect) Error! No resoponse from controller. Controller lights up but not connecting. Been trying different ideas but still get the same response. Do I need to hit the reset button on the box? Just at a loss of what to do.

Preferably all wiring, not just PSU. Whats the other device wired to the Power Supply?

The control box wires to XYZ motors were disconnected as per recommendations on troubleshoot instructions. I also had purchased a new power supply. The other pics are the com 7, com1 OpenBuilds control choice panel gives, the other pic is the error it gives after selecting. I just don't understand why its not recognizing the connection to the box.

When I replace the computer connection to the old Blackbox it picks up the com as com3 and I have no problem with XYZ functions. Why the new Blackbox don't recognize com3 is beyond me. I have downloaded and installed the driver updates and updated the coms.

Most likely a wiring mistake or similar thus the request for wiring pics. There are differences between the two specially around toolhead wiring.

But just mental check, you are up to date on CONTROL? Not running some old CONTROL version that predates the X32s existence right?

I am not the best photographer, if you can make sense of all this good luck. The table is a 1510 , simple system XYZ motor mounts, added a laser system with manual switch router, everything function on the old Blackbox no problems. The new Blackbox just is not being recognized when connecting to com's. When power is on the Fan works and you have a green light on top of the box, no other lights on.

They are very different (microcontroller, USB chip, Firmware type etc) so that comparison is less direct than you try to apply.

As you mention a laser for example. Old BlackBox was a 5V system, new one more modern 3.3v system
Wiring up an accessory not meant for 3.3v could have damaged the new one while not being a problem for the old one. Good to know the old one works on the machine. But really not much value to see why the new one doesn't

Its USB connection was factory tested. So if its not connecting ita either been damaged since, or theres still something missing..

(in order of most likely first)

    • Outdated drivers (Silabs 11.3x as per BlackBox X32 docs)
    • Outdated CONTROL version (1.0.376 is current)
    • A PC problem (test with another PC)
    • Damage during rewiring of machine (X32s toolhead wiring differs so some form of rewiring likely happened)
    Now per your info

So drivers should be correct. Com port settings - documentation makes no mention of digging around in it, defaults are fine. Hoping you didnt change anything

But some changes are required. One should refer docs.

Thought I'd do a follow up. I received a replacement Black box X32. Connected the box to the XYZ motor and switches everything worked then I decided to connect the light ring connection from the PMW power supply to the tool port on the box. It lasted about 10 seconds shorted out again. Last time I had connected the PMW to the PMW port on the box and it shorted out. For some reason the PMW from the power supply to the ports on the box does not like the like the like ring connection. So I am back to square 1. Like to know if anyone else is having this problem?

Light ring is supposed to be wired as shown here docs:blackbox-x32:connect-coolant [OpenBuilds Documentation] (Coolant Port - switches 24v directly)

Whats the specs of the PSU? Pictures of wiring, etc
(just to help confirm, happy to help with the post-mortem to help you see what the exact situation is and we can all learn from it)

    Might be something like

If the PSU has 5V pullups etc

Or it was wired with reversed polarity (as mentioned to you before, that doubled up wiring seems to have one pair reversed) - the pictures of what it us and how its wired will help us check it for you in more detail

Bad thing is you lose the port connection when it shorts out no reset or fuse for protection. The power supply is a new open builds power box 24V. Beginning to think I can wire straight from power supply DC port to the light ring bypass the other black box ports.
