Well I messed up. I run CNC's for a living and I have had my LEAD 1515 for a while, never had anything like this happen. Here's the story if you're interested, if not, scroll past it to the video: I was carving a large glue-up. 5 hour program. I checked on it every 10 min or so, plus I was within earshot the whole time as I was building a chicken coop outside of the garage - until I had to use the restroom. Yes, I should have paused the program. I didn't. I couldn't have been gone longer than 10 min. The machine was doing the final operation - cutting the plaque out of the glue up. 65ipm, .25 end mill, 1/16th per pass for a total depth of 1.5". Super conservative, right? When I walked in to check on it, the plaque had been completely cut in half in a single pass by the looks of it. The bit was shattered, my clamp had been smashed into, and the gantry was loose as hell. Also, it went super deep and cut into my brand-new spoilboard. Honestly not entirely sure WHY it happened, but I think I know WHAT happened. The router over-traveled and hit the clamp (even though it had plenty of clearance and never hit during all of the other passes?). This caused it to lose steps(?), so instead of finishing the cut-out it just cut the **** thing in half, came back and hit the clamp a second time which exploded the end mill. Or not. I'm just guessing here. Anyway, the gantry is very loose on the left vertical rail. The right side is fine. I have adjusted the eccentrics, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I can gently rock the gantry back and forth, which lifts the wheels on the left side about 0.040". I don't know what to do. The wheels look fine. Nothing seems bent at all. It does feel like the eccentrics should fix it, but they won't. The destroyed plaque The broken end mill
The brackets on the left side of the top gantry have been forced out of square somehow? I would remove the 5mm bolts through the wheels and check if they are straight and not bent.
I fixed it. I ended up removing the left vertical and rebuilding it with spare parts that I had, except for the wheels, those were not old at all. Once I put it all back together everything is working normally again.
