hi everyone I am new and building my first machine utilizing the frame of an old CNC. I have large nema32 6.0 amp motors and I have digital stepper drivers (DM860T) to power them. My question is how do I connect them to the black box x32? Is that even possible? I need step/dir signals. I’m trying to wrap my head around all this stuff. Thank you.
Available on the interconnect header inside - they are labelled, but note soldering to the backside of the pins does void warranty, BlackBox is not intended for use with external drivers.
I think my board a different version because those pins do not exist. That’s the direction CHATGPT led me down also. Got a recommendation for a different controller?
All BlackBoxes has the pins labelled inside next to the interconnect header.... Did you open it up and take a good look? Even the old 4X since 7+ years ago had the labels
I'm in the same boat. Are there any other components that would be in danger when running 6 amp steppers? Could you guys possibly make that mod and then sell it to me?
A 6A motor (note just looking at 1/3rd the electrical specs: voltage and inductance ratings important too, current just part of the picture) on a BlackBox would about half its rated amperage, so running the motor at 30-40% its torque - then why bother having a 6A motor, our High Torque motor with the correct electrical specs will outperform a huge motor being under-driven: NEMA 23 Stepper Motor - High Torque Series Now bringing in inductance and coil voltage, if that motor has high inductance and high voltage coils, it will also be slow on acceleration (coil voltage related) and top speed (due to back EMF from high inductance) Need all three figures to predict how it might perform - but from the sound of it - our HT motors will still likely outperform it just because theirs specs more perfectly matches to BlackBox Unfortunately not, but either wire external drivers to the pins as shown above, or use BlackBox Signal Break out Board - Makersupplies.dk
Right on, i appreciate all the info, the motors on my machine are these. Not sure that makes a difference. I've been beating my head against the wall for 2 weeks just trying to get mach3 to turn the spindle on with code. I purchased the blackbox to try and use openbuilds control since it's sooooo much more intuitive and user friendly. But I guess I'll need to go a different direction.
