    Hi,
I have been trying to work out what a couple of holes are used for on the side plates. on all the images I have seen so far they are not used. I am thinking it could be for a cable clip or something.

I'm pretty close to starting to order parts for a small format Ox, and having read a bit more, am wondering if there are any generally known delays or back orders that should be expected with the bulk of parts listed.

Also, just to make sure I'm not missing something, the only tap size I would need is an M5 with .08 thread pitch? And, is there no extrusion cutting required with a stock build?

Is this still a good place to get the plates, (not available in the OB shop), from?

I now list my OX CNC gantry plate sets on Amazon, as well as my store on Ebay under chrisclub1, or better yet, contact me for a little lower direct price.
There are also a few other plate makers listed in the first message of this forum.

You will need to trim most V-slot to length. They typically run about 5mm long. As for tapping depending on the location you may be able to use self tapping screws. Or as I noted in a previous post, if you drill the right hole size any screw can be self tapping. I haven't cut threads in quite some time. If you do go for cutting your own threads, I would suggest a forming tap rather than a cutting tap.

I'm aware of rolling/forming vs. cutting, but was just checking that only an M5-.80 would be needed.
I had only watched the build video, but now see in the part list they are all specified cuts that need to be made.

Will do. I didn't realize most of the links were convo's. I found your listings on ebay, but will need to look at what things I am going to need more closely at this point.

Great, got some plates cut today and I didnt include them with the intention that I could custom locate any cable clips once I have everything together and I work out where I want everything

If it is not too much trouble, and there are any offsets or parts that anyone knows about which do not appear to match or show on the parts list, it would be helpful and appreciated to know before attempting to put together an order of parts listed for the small format build.

For example the 710 dim appears to be the 750 dim - (2) 20 dims.

    V-Slot 20x80mm (1500) - Cut in half (750) Sides
    V-Slot 20x40mm (1500) - Center Table support (710) Back Brace (500) Z axis (180)
V-Slot 20x40mm (1000) - Cut in half (500) Front and Back table support
V-Slot 20x60mm (1000) - Cut in half (500) For the X axis beam (sandwiched together)

    Thanks.

I think the bottom hole is to insert a screw to contact your Y limit switch.

I've brought my Ox back into service after the winter and have an odd problem. The z-axis is sinking during a run, so an 8" line starting at 0.1" deep will end at 0.5". Then it only gets worse during the run. How can I bring the z-axis back to normal?

You check the set screws on the z coupler?

If you were using mach 3 id say it sounds like a corrupt setup file. Learnt the hard way yesterday, my y steppers were slowing when jogging with x and z at the same time then going back to normal, sounds like a current issue right but the x uses a toroidal transformer, anyway cut a really long story short i began narrowing down the causes stripping the machine and electronics and testing individually only to find that if i matched the feedrates in mach 3 the issue disapeared. Mach 3 was confusing feedrate settings across different motors upon jogging them, very bizarre! Any way reinstalled mach 3 n bingo. sorted.

moral of the story i think is that if something that was working fine develops a problem, try reinstall of software first.

Might not be the case for you but could be worth a go.

Set screws were good. Turns out the eccentrics on the z-axis needed some tightening. All working now - thanks!

That shouldn't cause it to drop. Either your coupling or motor isn't holding.

@Mark Carew I am overly excited to start building this router. Just to be clear I am a total newbie to your world. My question is what would you recommend building these plates out of? I am curious about composite or aluminum or anything else that you recommend. I also need to know the recommended thickness.

Of course anyone can chime in with their two cents!

I look forward to all the comments.

    Hello @Adam Eldeen
Welcome to OpenBuilds! You are about to embark on a super fun and informative journey.
Once you see your machine making its first steps, you will instantly be addicted to this hobby and it will open a whole new world of exciting possibilities to you.
I would go with aluminum for your plates its plenty stiff, easy to work with and works great for machine building.
Keep it fun my friend, all the best with your builds.

Thanks I'm really looking forward to seeing your concept become my reality!

What thickness and type? I know that may seem elementary but as said before I'm a total newbie.

Make sure you have the latest TinyG firmware (440.14). There was a problem with the Z axis not being energized during cutting and the Z would drop........

Can you guys please tell me how to wire up this PWM speed controller to the CNC xPRO so that I can have software control over the RPMs? I have the speed controller shown in the picture at the link below. I do not want to use the potentiometer that comes with it. Thanks.

Hi @Justin Dewoody Sorry, I would have jumped in to help but I have never wired one of these up so I didn't want to steer you wrong. Glad to hear you got it figured out bro.
