I think a 2.2kw would be to heavy I have 1 for a future build

ya i am looking for a smaller one as they are about half the weight but even then the RCmotor spindle with an ER11 collet chuck seems like a really nice balance between power and overall weight. This looks like it would beat the pants out of a dermal but how is it up against a wood router?

It deff puts a drem to shame, wood router would be stronger but then your back to the weight issue again along with size.

    @Jestah
    All done!
I have press fit the 608 zz bearings in place for you :)
    image.jpg
    Needed to complete
    4 x 45mm M4 screws
    5045 900KV RC motor
    80 amp ESC
    ER11 100mm C8 collet
What ever collet inserts you plan to use, I only use 1/8 and 1/4 inch myself ;)
You can prob find a motor ESC combo for a good deal on eBay and the collet shouldn't be more then $16 on eBay
Be sure the motors shaft is 8mm when buying your motor as everything slides onto the 8mm collet see the OX RC spindle build for details :)

So here I am giggling like a school girl insisting that my girlfriend comes and checks out my new parts....

She ask why on earth she is being forced to look at more cnc parts this early in the morning ....

Same reason I have to watch you look at pages and pages of shoes .... Cause they are purrry and spakle and will look really nice with that little black OX number I have sitting in my workshop....

    Vengeance is mine!

Huge thanks to Robert for getting this custom order done in lest time than most shops take to quote a job in! Stellar services and highly recommended to all!

    Hey Robert,

I've ordered the motor, ESC and the collet...No pressure!

Question...is the a place where I can download current drawings of the machined parts?

    Regards,
    Brian

The current files are not uploaded but I will try to get them posted
I should have enough plate to have a kit for you soon.

Would ferrite cores reduce signal noise?

Robert, i've a couple of questions:
Do you use a Battery or a Power Supply?
How much current does it draw?
    Supply voltage?
    Total Power?

What would you say is the total weight for this machine?

    I use a 10 amp 12DC power supply

    No, I'm now using a 1.5kw spindle.
After milling all the 3/8 plate with my last RC Spindle I decided to go bigger so that I could push it a lot harder

Do you mill all these aluminum parts with the rc spindle? I've had my eye on your design for awhile

No what you see in the pic is what I ship.
The end user will need to get an RC 5045 with 8mm shaft, ER11 collet 100mm long, 80 amp ESC and 4 x M4 x 45mm screws.
Then it's just a matter of assembly like in the build log.

No, Sorry I meant is the spindle capable of aluminum machining? Do you use your rc spindle for milling aluminum

Oh! Lol sorry just got up to a bunch of updates and pms
Yes I have cut 3/8 aluminum plate as that is how I built my current mill.
I only ever do pass's of 1/64 to avoid chatter.
With the right bit for the job an RC spindle should last you a while before a simple rebuild would be required "replace bearings and clean"

I now use a 1.5kw spindle for milling parts.

This is what my mill started out as
    image.jpg

I then used it to upgrade itself :)
This is a pic of parts that where milled with my RC spindle

Oh ok. Looks cool! Next question is, is it quieter than a spindle with similar performance? Quietness would be my main quest haha

At low RPMs it screams, 10,000 RPM it's tone changes and is a lot easier on the ears.
See my video in the build log for an idea

I'm playing around with a few different 3d printed carriers right now. I may go that way just because I can. Well see...

@kram242, or anyone else, if I were to swap out the v-slot for beefier 80/20 X and Y axis (with openbuild's linear rails), could I use the OX AI plates and create an 4x8 building with the same steppers that would allow me to double up the build for use as a plasma cutter and router cnc?
(I know that the base would need some redesign for the slats, etc.)
I guess I am asking about the compatability of the plate's holes and whether a 8' Y and 4' X would support the weight with out sagging and still offer precision wood and aluminum cuts?
    Thanks,
    Karl Miller

    Hello @Karl Miller,
The OpenRails plates hole pattern would not be the same as the V-Slots since the OpenRail bolts to extrusion and the 'V portion of the rails sits on the outside edge of the extrusion. You would need to make a plate with a wider hole pattern to achieve this.
You can check out the example models here (Green download model button in OpenRail description) to get an idea of where the hole spacing would be for the OpenRail and the extrusion you are looking to use.
    Hope this helps
    Mark

    Hi @kram242,
I'd like to build a large OX 1mx1,5m but it seems that all the 20x80 x1,5m in the world is OutOfStock...
Can you give an estimation on when it will be sold again?

    Hello @oni305
A lot of OpenBuilds distributors should be receiving their shipments soon so you should see it popping up to (hopefully) a town near you. If not we will have some shortly as well.
    Thanks
    Mark
