Hi guys first attempt at rack and pinion, not sure how to workout the steps and velocity,

Rack mod1 20 tooth pinion, with 2:1 reduction, 20 tooth and 40, could not get 15 tooth in 8mm bore for 3:1
    Nema 24 1.8,

Will be up loading pics soon of the build, thanks for any help. Kev

The location is fine you just didn't quite put the comment in the form of a question so nobody responded.

Steps are fairly simple. 3.1416mm per tooth x 20 teeth / 2 for the gearing = 31.4159mm per revolution of the stepper. Divide that by 200 steps per revolution = 0.1571mm per step. Can't offer any help with the velocities.

As far as gear selection, the drive gear doesn't have to be the same size as the stepper motor, it only has to be the same size as the 40 tooth pulley. You can put any size shaft at that end as long as you have the bearings to match.

Hey Kev... I'm interested in your rack and pinion and will keep an eye out for the pics. Do you have a machine you are putting it on or is this a new build?
    Thanks!
